Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 31, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review.  After the experiment comes the review.  It turns out that mediators need review also, including review of what's going on with both sides, that require this mediation.

Word for the Day: Monday, December 30, 2013

The Word for Yesterday (Monday) was Experimentation.  When I took High School Chemistry, I remember one way to tie experimentation with mediation, with mediation required between the teacher and the students, due to disagreements on the experiments themselves.

Sunday, December 29, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 29, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition.  Mediating between people who don't recognize each other?  Recognizing mediators?  There are examples of the first, like countries that don't acknowledge each other's existence.  They could need mediation the most!

Weekly Theme: Week of 12/29/2013 to 1/04/2014

The Theme for this Week is Mediation.  As described on Wikipedia, this can be an awesome career path. In a nutshell, this is conflict resolution.  Usually thought of as an international position, it's also important in a single country, such as resolving conflicts between political parties, or between a corporation and its employees.  Good luck!

Saturday, December 28, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 28, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve.  Cooperative Resolve?  Resolve to Cooperate?  Both, actually.  Resolutions made by a group, that can help each other can be powerful.  (Example, a group that wants to quit drinking together?  Certainly:  Alcoholics Anonymous).  On the other side, a resolution to behave in a way that leads to cooperating better can also help.

Friday, December 27, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, December 27, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Courage.  Cooperative Courage?  Absolutely:  When more than one person is willingly and (hopefully) happily cooperating with each other, I believe much more courage can be found, both for things that can be accomplished, as well as the courage to say "no", when needed.

Thursday, December 26, 2013

Words for the Day: Thursday, December 26, 2013

The Words for Today (Thursday) are Strength and Empowerment.  How do these connect with Cooperation (our Theme)?  Simple:  Two or more people, cooperating with each other have more strength, and are more empowered than single people are, especially if they are competing with each other.

Wednesday, December 25, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 25, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Competence.  Competent cooperation?  (Could include helping someone without getting in the way).  How about cooperating to become competent?  (Could be a teacher helping a student, both by the usual tasks of a teacher and, possibly with individual help, be more competent in his/her class).

Have a very competent Christmas!

Tuesday, December 24, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 24, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Endurance.  How does Cooperation (our Theme) come together with Endurance?  There's a type of competition called "Tag Team".  Imagine my surprise when I learned this is about Wrestling, because I thought it was a general term.  But even here, it has meaning, because the entire match is easier for each person to endure, as long as each member of the team equally pulls his/her weight.

Monday, December 23, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, December 23, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Fertility.  There are, of course, more than one connotation for Fertility, including a fertile imagination.  That said, even the conventional "be fruitful and multiply" connotation works best with maximum cooperation, as well as communication.

Sunday, December 22, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 22, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Stability.  And I believe that things can be quite a bit more stable, when people just cooperate with each other.  Why?  Because, in my opinion, "rampant competition" (especially if unfair, such as a huge corporation undercuts small businesses, even "inspiring" some of them to close), can only end in instability and hardship, especially for those who lost their jobs in the smaller businesses.

Weekly Theme: Week of December 22-28, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Cooperation.  This is considered an important enough word, to have a Wikipedia page.  Some people consider Competition to be an exact opposite, but I disagree because, among other things, a corporation that competently competes with other corporations, needs employees, working for it, cooperating with each other.

One special example, which I believe contains the spirit of this Theme:  There are two people, one of which works for company A, and the other of which works for company B.  These two companies are direct competitors.  However, these two people are good friends with each other, and might cooperate in general matters, such as both volunteering for the same school.  They might also enjoy, say, eating dinner together.  If they keep careful boundaries, they can "personally cooperate", even while keeping from any corporate conversations, allowing for corporate competition.

In general, I believe that the best direction for this World is for more cooperation and less competition.  Thank you!

Saturday, December 21, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 21, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Release.  Last Thursday, I mentioned a Contrast Knob (so you can keep your life somewhere between scary and boring).  Somewhere in the same scene, you might find a Release Lever, just in case you find yourself stuck.  Stuck?  These things happen, probably to everybody at some time.  Good luck!

Friday, December 20, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, December 20, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Aspiration.  Before we bring in our Theme (Circulation), I wish to state that my favorite context for this Word is, "I aspire to be my personal best".

That said, there are all sorts of "medical definitions" for this Word that fit our Theme, such as aspirating blood from the lungs, so that they can "circulate" air, through the body.

Thursday, December 19, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 19, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Contrast.  If your life seems to be going badly, go into the scene you are in, and look around closely.  You are looking for a "contrast knob".  If you can find it, you are doing well, because too much contrast can be scary, yet too little can be boring.  Good luck!

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 18, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Adaptability.  This trait, also called Flexibility, is an exceptional one, which will take you far.  As to circulation, my opinion is that a general flexibility, in life, helps your heart circulate your blood, because it avoids hardening of the arteries, which often begin with "hardening of the opinions".

Words for the Day: Tuesday, December 17, 2013

The Words for Yesterday (Tuesday) were Agility and Grace.  These are great traits to have, in any case, and can be developed by Yoga.  As for circulation, I'll just point out that good blood circulation can help with both of these traits.  (And yes, I'm a day late.  You can feel free to complain, using the comment system.  The only reason for moderation of comments is to avoid automated "comment spam", that has destroyed many BLOG's in the past.  As for humans, with differing views from me, I welcome them in any of my BLOG's).

Monday, December 16, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, December 16, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Acceleration.  Accelerated Circulation?  Well, certainly!  It works with the two examples I gave earlier.  In a library setting, you can accelerate the circulation of books and ideas, both by better advertising and, in some cases, by decreasing the length of time you can keep the book, before returning it.  In the other example, a water company, accelerated circulation is simpler:  Just keep the pipes clean, and unclogged.

Sunday, December 15, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 15, 2013

The Words for Today (Sunday) are Patience and Tolerance.  These are both good traits to "circulate" around your life.  And they are good traits to have, if you wish to make a career around circulation, such as a librarian (circulating books), or at a water company (circulating water around a community).

Weekly Theme: Week of December 15-21, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Circulation.  There could easily be two meanings to this, even in the original context (Global Job).  They both have the same basis, but one is circulating fluids, such as blood through a body, or water through a town.  The other is circulating ideas, such as a public library or something like Google.  How this combines with the Words for this week needs to be determined.

Saturday, December 14, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 14, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Acknowledgement.  First, let me acknowledge that celebration (our Theme) is good, acknowledge that the earlier Words this week (especially yesterday's, Kindness) are great, and note that it takes knowledge to acknowledge people who help you in your life.

Friday, December 13, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, December 13, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Kindness.  First, I believe this Word counteracts any superstitions, regarding luck, or lack of luck, regarding this being Friday, the 13th.  :-)

Also, I believe this Word goes fantastic with our Theme, because kindness, especially if unexpected, is something that can be celebrated.

Finally, a charge:  I recommend (even on days other than this one) performing random and unexpected acts of kindness.  Thank you!

Thursday, December 12, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 12, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Encouragement.  This ties in with our Theme, Celebration in both directions.  For example, I fully encourage celebration, even for "small things", like when some detail of your life went well.  Also, I celebrate encouragement, especially if something "awesome" is being encouraged, such as performing acts of tomorrow's Word, Kindness!  :-)

(One note about tomorrow:  I find it awesome, that Friday, the 13th falls on a day with the Word, Kindness.  Sounds lucky to me).

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 11, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Thoughtfulness.  What do you get, when you break this word up?  Full of Thought!  I interpret this as thinking, before speaking and/or acting.  And when you see this, in the world, it's absolutely something to celebrate.

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 10, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Support.  And having a good Support Group is definitely something to celebrate.  That goes without saying.  However, the part that people don't always think of?  Being part of somebody else's Support Group is also something to celebrate!

Monday, December 9, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, December 9, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Comfort.  And comfort can absolutely be something to celebrate, especially with the crazy weather that is occurring all over Planet Earth.  (Note:  Even people with little or no money can go to the Public Library for a place of comfort).

Sunday, December 8, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 8, 2013

The Word for Yesterday (Sunday) is Nourishment.  (First, I was in a travel situation, and regret missing a day, at least in the Eastern Time Zone).  However, this ties in well with our Theme, because what better thing to celebrate, than good nourishment?

Weekly Theme: Week of December 8-14, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Celebration.  If a person has experiences, that he/she interprets badly, one response to the word, celebration is, "Celebrate what??!!"  Well, obviously this depends on the life situation you are in.  If you are able to read this BLOG, you can celebrate the fact that you are alive.  :-)

Please note that this Week marks the beginning of a Michael Month, with the Role of Sage.

Saturday, December 7, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 7, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Prosperity.  And yes, people do prosper from giving revelations.  Some do it from the Positive Pole, by being crystal clear.  (And I've benefited from paying for some of their revelations).  But some others prosper from the Negative Pole, by being something "less than ethical" about it.  There is a movie, Ghost, about a woman (played by Whoopi Goldberg), who started from the negative pole, but ended up, operating out of the positive pole.  I highly recommend it.

Friday, December 6, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, December 6, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Liberation.  Liberating from Revelation?  Revelation helping to liberate one from limitations?  I'll pick the second any day.  Thank you.  :-)

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 5, 2013

The Work for Today (Thursday) is Wisdom.  Wise revelations?  Revelations about how to develop wisdom?  (Hint:  Life Experience aces book reading).  But both of these can be important.

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 4, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Impartiality.  Yes, this connects with the Theme, by making it easier to decode the revelation, without putting so much of our own opinions into it.

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 3, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Consequence.   OK. So you get a revelation [our Theme], either from somebody else, or from a personal experience. What you do with this (whether to share it, WHO to share it with, whether to hold it to yourself, or even whether to ignore it) has a consequence. However, it might not be immediately certain what the DETAILS are of that consequence.

Monday, December 2, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, December 2, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Elimination.  Once again, I don't believe this means to eliminate Revelation, but to eliminate what gets in the way of the clear mind, that makes revelation easier.

Sunday, December 1, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 1, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Self-Reliance.  Statistically, people seem to be so dependent on others, that the fact that human beings could be self-reliance might seem to be a "surprising Revelation".

Weekly Theme: Week of December 1-7, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Revelation.  I used Google to "define revelation", getting two distinct definitions.  The first is, simply "a surprising, and previously unknown fact...", but the second, "divine or supernatural disclosure to humans of something relating to human existence or the world", shows the religious connotations for this word.

Saturday, November 30, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, November 30, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Expansion.  Philosophy of expansion?  Or an expanded philosophy?  Both work well, but be careful about expansion, itself as, in some cases, especially when applied to the middle of the body, it can have unpleasant consequences.

Friday, November 29, 2013

Words for the Day: Friday, November 29, 2013

The Words for Today (Friday) are Trust and Faith.  As a philosophy, these are good, as I can say I trust the Lord, and have Faith in the Universe.  However, where human beings are involved, be careful.  Trust must be earned, and Faith should never be blind.  Thank you.

Thursday, November 28, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, November 28, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude.  A philosophy of gratitude is outstanding, and easy:  Just thank those who help you, when they do so!

One special note:  These Words cycle every 49 days, which doesn't even come close to evenly dividing into a year.  So it's quite special, when this Word comes up on the Thanksgiving Holiday.  This is the second time I actually remember this occurring.

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, November 27, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality.  Philosophy of equality?  Certainly, as long as it's done on a "positive level", which I interpret as, "Equal Opportunity to All".

Please note that there is a not-so-nice "philosophy" of equality, which shows up as forced conformity.  Some private schools come to mind (with, for example, their uniforms), as well as some totalitarian governments.

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, November 26, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence.  Philosophy of Prudence?  When taking one more look at Google's "define prudence", I saw one thing that stands out:  Common sense.  That's definitely something we need more of, in this world!

Monday, November 25, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, November 25, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence.  Innocent philosophy?  Philosophy of innocence?  Philosophy of being innocent?  (The third one includes being ruthlessly honest with yourself and, as practical, honest with others).

Sunday, November 24, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, November 24, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness.  And I have a great deal of compassion for you, if you feel the need to ask forgiveness for your philosophy.  :-)

Weekly Theme: Week of November 24-30, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Philosophy.  A question I don't hear asked often (at least in this form):  "What is your philosophy?"  When I ask Google to define it, I get, "the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and existence..."  So (if you care to comment), what is your philosophy?

Saturday, November 23, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, November 23, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity.  Authentic education?  Absolutely!  My interpretation of this is teaching the truth, to the best of your ability.  (One example of a non-authentic education would be a totalitarian government deliberately teaching lies, that help put it in a positive light).

Friday, November 22, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, November 22, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation.  How does this tie in with our Theme?  Two directions:  It's always a good idea to take time, to interpret what you experience in a classroom, which makes a great study aid.  On the other side, learning multiple languages helps to make Interpreter a good career path.

Thursday, November 21, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, November 21, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization.  And yes, educational environments are also social environments.  And so is the Internet.  But I consider in-person to be better than computer socialization.

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, November 20, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration.  I've heard, many times, "You get what you concentrate on".  And I believe this includes educational environments, where degree of concentration might influence your grade.

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, November 19, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Acceptability.  What might cause Education to be classified as acceptable or not?  Oh well, besides the nature of the subject matter being taught?

Monday, November 18, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, November 18, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Generosity.  To tie in our Theme, my opinion is that the best way to teach generosity is to be generous yourself.  And, in general, I also believe that a little generosity goes a long ways to make a better world.

Sunday, November 17, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, November 17, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Sharing.  And teaching (one half of the Themes) is a type of sharing.  Share and share alike, I say.  :-)

Weekly Themes: Week of November 17-23, 2013

The Themes for this Week are Education and Teaching.  A noun and a verb:  The concept is education, and the way you do it is to teach.  :-)

The funny part of this, in my opinion, is that all of life is the education, and all the people around me are the teachers.

Saturday, November 16, 2013

Words for the Day: Saturday, November 16, 2013

The Words for Today (Saturday) are Overview and Perspective.  Otherwise known as the Big Picture, or the Cliffs Notes of reality, in my opinion, these help in the retention of any topic being studied.

Friday, November 15, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, November 15, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Reflection.  I just put "define reflection" into google, getting one meaning, "serious thought or consideration".  And I believe that would help retention, in an academic situation.

Note on other meaning (mirror):  We can all be mirrors to each other.

Thursday, November 14, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, November 14, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Study.  And how does this connect with Retention (our Theme)?  Depends on how you study.  For example, I wouldn't expect much retention, if the study method includes the drinking of alcohol.

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, November 13, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption.  This one's in science fiction:  Take a pill, go to bed, have some sort of educational podcast playing while you are asleep and, "magically", you are now an expert in the topic of the night!

The question that should be asked in these fiction stories:  Did you retain what you learned overnight?

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, November 12, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review.  So how does this tie in with Retention?  Review helps me retain what I did, leading to the review, whether it's academic (classroom, reading assignment, or a lab experiment), or work related (staff meeting, looking over an assignment by a co-worker, or [most important] reviewing my own work, prior to submitting it).

Monday, November 11, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, November 11, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation.  I remember, in my High School Chemistry class, retaining [Theme] what I learned in laboratory experiments, much easier than what I read in the chemistry textbook.  (But the textbook had a great use:  Reference material for what I was finding in the experiments).

Sunday, November 10, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, November 10, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition.  In general, it's good to recognize those who help you in your life.  As far as recognizing retention, I'm not so sure, especially if a medical meaning of retention is used, such as water retention.  I believe our Theme will work better with some of the other Words.

Weekly Theme: Week of November 10-16, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Retention.  Since this is a Scholar Theme, I'm pretty sure that "water retention" is not the desired connotation. So how does one retain what he/she learns?  In my opinion, the key is, "learning by doing".

Saturday, November 9, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, November 9, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve.  And yes, I can combine this, in a sentence, with our Theme:  "I resolve to preserve my resolve".  In general, note that resolutions can be made any time in a year.

Friday, November 8, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, November 8, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Courage.  How do you preserve your courage?  How about the courage to preserve?  Actually, the latter is more likely, especially if the "item" being preserved is controversial.

Thursday, November 7, 2013

Words for the Day: Thursday, November 7, 2013

The Words for Today (Thursday) are Strength and Empowerment.  Preservation (our Theme), can require certain amounts of both strength and power, depending on what is being preserved.  But this can go the other direction, also, where certain practices, such as working out, diet and yoga can be used to preserve your own strength and power.

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, November 6, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Competence.  How does preservation relate to competence?  Are we, as a species competent to preserve ourselves, if we keep entertaining War, as an option?  I thought not!

A general comment:  An important thing is to always be competent to be yourself.

Tuesday, November 5, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, November 5, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Endurance.  The definition suggests hardships. A possible example of a hardship is attempting to preserve something, such as people with fertility issues attempting to procreate (so they can take part in preserving our species).

Monday, November 4, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, November 4, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Fertility.  How does this fit with Preservation (our Theme)?  The "conventional meaning" of Fertility does tend to preserve a species.  And another usage of fertility, a "fertile imagination" can preserve creativity.  I like how this works.

Sunday, November 3, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, November 3, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Stability.  The act of preserving something appears to be related to putting it into a state of stability.  Another way of putting this:  Stability helps one to preserve something.

Weekly Theme: Week of November 3-9, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Preservation.  What does it mean to preserve something?  Preserve it from what?  The funniest thing?  The Word that fits best appears to be today's (Sunday's).

Saturday, November 2, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, November 2, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Release.  Is this "supposed" to be a release from analysis (our Theme)?  I think not.  More like a release from what gets in the way of analysis, such as inflexible thinking.

Friday, November 1, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, November 1, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Aspiration.  If you want to tie this to Analysis (our Theme), one way to do it is to aspire to be the best analyst you can.  But note that this Word has many meanings, including medical ones.

Thursday, October 31, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, October 31, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Contrast.  In general, remember that too much Contrast can get scary (and it's an interesting "coincidence" that this Word came up on Halloween).  But, on the other hand, too little contrast can turn boring.  And there can be lots of analysis (our Theme) to come up with ideas like this.

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, October 30, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Adaptability.  It's through its synonym, flexibility, that this ties in best with our Theme:  Flexible analysis.  Because "inflexible analysis" hardly exists at all, because you aren't  truly analyzing something, if you've already made up your mind.

Tuesday, October 29, 2013

Words for the Day: Tuesday, October 29, 2013

The Words for Today (Tuesday) are Agility and Grace.  Agile and graceful analysis?  Why not?  Some people report being able to think better, when in motion.  And a reminder:  I recommend yoga, to help develop these two traits.

Monday, October 28, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, October 28, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Acceleration.  Accelerated analysis?  Careful analysis, before a "policy of acceleration" (especially if being done in a motor vehicle)?  I'll pick the second one, thank you very much, though the first has a lot to recommend.

Sunday, October 27, 2013

Words for the Day: Sunday, October 27, 2013

The Words for Today (Sunday) are Patience and Tolerance.  These are wonderful traits to have, in general, but they both help a great deal, in analyzing "things".  What these "things" are, I leave up to you.

Weekly Theme: Week of 10/27 - 11/02/2013

The Theme for this Week is Analysis.  What does it mean to analyze something?  "Mental Processing"?  Using your mind as the supercomputer it really is?  ("Define" in Google adds "detailed examination" to the mix).  And now, we can see how this works with the Words, coming up for this Week.  Have fun and good luck, everybody.

Saturday, October 26, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, October 26, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Acknowledgement.  First, note that it takes knowledge to acknowledge someone, knowledge that can come from an Archive (or Public Library).  But I certainly like to acknowledge those who help me get through the logistics of life.

Friday, October 25, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, October 25, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Kindness.  I like this Word, as it helps he world go around.  And showing kindness to Archives (i.e. Public Libraries) is, of course, a great step to take.

Thursday, October 24, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, October 24, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Encouragement.  The tie-in with our Theme is obvious:  Please encourage your local Archives (i.e. Public Libraries).  And, on the other side, the rhetorical "I" encourage "you" to archive (i.e. make backups) of all your important computer data.  See how easy this can be?  :-)

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, October 23, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Thoughtfulness.  In general, a little of this goes a long ways.  But it touches on Archives (our Theme) quite well, as it is always good to be thoughtful inside, say, a public library.  For example, keep the noise level down.  But it's also thoughtful to let them know they are helping you, and that you support them.

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, October 22, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Support.  And yes, this goes well with Archives (the Theme), because if you benefit from one or more public libraries, show them some support.  Also, archiving data from your computer(s) (also known as taking backups) is a form of support for those computers.

Word for the Day: Monday, October 21, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Comfort.  How comfortable can an Archive get?  Think public library, with comfortable chairs, and a comfortable audio level (even to people getting in trouble, if they violate it).  And, with the other meaning of Archive (i.e. backing up files on your computer systems), you just "feel more comfortable", knowing you've done a good job.

Sunday, October 20, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, October 20, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Nourishment.  Can Archives be Nourishing?  Perhaps for termites, they can!  (I told you this could get funny...)

There is a special sort of nourishment that book reading can provide:  Nourishment for the brain and mind.  (But be selective of subject matter, as there can be intellectual "junk food", just like physical things you can put in your mouth, might even taste good, but don't help your digestive tract very much).

Weekly Theme: Week of October 20-26, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Archives.  This seems like an old, dusty and, perhaps obsolete word.  However, there are two easy to understand equivalents:  Libraries, and Backups.  Do you visit public libraries?  You can save a lot of money from bookstores if you do.  Do you back up the personal data on your computer(s)?  You will thank me, some day, if I'm the one to "inspire" you to do so.  As to how this relates to the Words for this week, look no farther than the next post, to see how funny this can get.

Saturday, October 19, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, October 19, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Prosperity.  When trying for a "strategy of prosperity", remember that there are more than one "type" of prosperity.  For example, a prosperous imagination can lead to, as an example, a good career as a book author.  But even attempting to use "visualization and affirmations" for monetary prosperity can have complications.  For example, if you "visualize" becoming a millionaire, yet don't believe you "deserve money", things are not likely to work.

Friday, October 18, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, October 18, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Liberation.  How does one keep a strategy of liberation, in his/her life?  One way is to keep out of trouble.  A "normal" life is, quite liberating, as you make your own decisions.  On the other hand, getting in trouble with the law can result in a very, shall we say, regimented life, to say the least!  One that might call for [drum roll] liberation.

Thursday, October 17, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, October 17, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Wisdom.  A "strategy" of wisdom is a bit touchy, as people might mistakenly think it's mainly about studying the "correct material", for whatever topic you want to be "wise" about.  The problem?  Wisdom actually comes from life experience, much more than, say, book reading.

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, October 16, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Impartiality.  So what would one call a "strategy" of impartiality?  Besides hard to accomplish?

Actually, we can even ignore our Theme, as Impartiality is hard to find anywhere, including the news.

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, October 15, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Consequence.  To bring our Theme back in, all Strategies have Consequences.  A good way to understand this, is if you play Chess.  If you have a strategy of trying to eliminate all the opponent's chess pieces (a highly aggressive strategy), you may be susceptible to slow, positional play, get impatient, and make mistakes. (Impatience, in any form, has consequences, in my opinion).

Monday, October 14, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, October 14, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Elimination.  I'm extremely sure that the combined Word/Theme is not meant to suggest eliminating strategy.  :-O

However, please keep in mind that there are LOTS of things that can get in the way of a good strategy of life.

Sunday, October 13, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, October 13, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Self-Reliance.  This makes for a great strategy, of course, but don't forget the other people in your life.  Because we all are connected.

Weekly Theme: Week of October 13-19, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Strategy.  Strategy verses Tactics.  People discuss that frequently.  I play Chess, at times, though a bit rusty, and both are important.  Let's see where this goes.  Thanks!

Saturday, October 12, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, October 12, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Expansion.  As long as this is Spiritual (or mental) expansion, it is useful.  But expanding body parts (left to your imagination, except for one example, where your "middle" expands, due to too much delicious food), can be less than useful, especially if you need to use that body for "useful things", such as (my own example), moving across the country from Seattle, WA to Carrboro, NC.  (still early, as the state hasn't changed yet.  Using I-90 for much of trip).

Friday, October 11, 2013

Words for the Day: Friday, October 11, 2013

The Words for Today (Friday) are Trust and Faith.  Useful concepts:  "Trust must be Earned, and Faith should never be blind".

I think it was yesterday that I brought up the Michael concepts, "Positive and Negative Poles".  One example of Negative Pole that addresses half of today's Words:  Negative Pole (or aspect) of Spiritualist Attitude is something like, "Blind Faith".

Thursday, October 10, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, October 10, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude.  This is one of the most useful Words around, as thanking those who help you, encourage them to help you more, in the future.  (Of course, it doesn't stop there, because it also helps to help others).

Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, October 9, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality.  And how is equality useful? In my opinion, equality is most useful, when it represents equal opportunity [positive pole], and not forced conformity [negative pole].

Tuesday, October 8, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, October 8, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence.  Here's the general "rule", that I've brought up before:  It's good to "show descretion in practical affairs" [try "define prudence" on Google], but it's not so USEFUL [I had to get the Theme in here somewhere] to go overboard and "transform into a Prude".

Do you know that, in the "dim history", Prudence had little connection with sex, except that "practical affairs" include human relationships?  Thanks!

Monday, October 7, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, October 7, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence.  How can it be useful to be innocent?  This is practically a rhetorical question, because staying out of prison (aka, the pokey) is a useful way to keep your life in order.

Sunday, October 6, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, October 6, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness.  There are many reasons one might feel the need to seek forgiveness.  However, trying to be useful should  never  be one of them.  One thing I used to hear, as a child would "inspire sadness" in me:  "Kenneth, you are in the way!"   Good luck, folks!

Weekly Theme: Week of October 6-12, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Usefulness.  I'm going to go out of my "usual" set of sources, to give the Swedenborg definition of Uses

In general, I can state that it feels better to "be useful".  In fact, the worst thing I could hear, when I was a child was, "Kenneth, you're in the way!"  Stay useful.

Word for the Day: Saturday, October 5, 2013

The Word for Yesterday (Saturday) was Authenticity.  Yes, I was authentically busy yesterday, preparing for an upcoming move east.  But if I was pacing myself, in a practical, economic way, I would have had plenty of time for the move preparation, as well as yesterday's Word, on time.  So my bad!

Friday, October 4, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, October 4, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation.  So how does one "interpret" economy or practicality?  My suspicion is, "very carefully!"

A reminder:  In general, knowing multiple languages might open up a wonderful career as an Interpreter.

Thursday, October 3, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, October 3, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization.  We are social animals.  The real question, however, is if you can be a practical, economic social animal.  :-)

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, October 2, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration.  "Practical, economical concentration" has a special meaning:  Pace yourself!  For every "so much time", where you're concentrating, give yourself some relaxation time, where you give yourself the space to become, temporarily "diffuse".  Thank you!

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, October 1, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Acceptability.  How about a sentence, tying this to this week's Weekly Themes?

"If you're planning to be a practical economist, why not try to be acceptable, too?"

Thanks!  Kenneth Wayne Parker

Monday, September 30, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, September 30, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Generosity.  How does this fit with our Themes?  Easily:  "Practical, economical generosity is the best kind".

In general, a little Generosity goes a long way.  If more people practiced it, our world would be significantly better.  Thanks!

Sunday, September 29, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, September 29, 2013

The Work for Today (Sunday) is Sharing.  How do you "share Economy and Practicality"?  Very Carefully.  :-)

(Sorry, I was "too busy" being "personally practical" today.  Too "tired" to "share" this time of day [almost midnight, Monday, when the Word will be Generosity.  So please be generous with me, and let me sleep]).

Weekly Themes: Week of September 29 to October 5, 2013

The Themes for this Week are Economy and Practicality.  How do these go together?  Well, "being economical" is normally "practical".  And "being practical" normally doesn't "waste resources".  Good luck!

Saturday, September 28, 2013

Words for the Day: Saturday, September 28, 2013

The Words for Today (Saturday) are Overview and Perspective.  These make up the "Executive Summary" of Reality.  They also fit in with Organization, as it's always good to get an idea of the "Big Picture" at your "organization", whether it's a corporation, non-profit, or an academic setting.  Like, for example, you might want to go to, say, Liberty University, just because you heard it has an awesome Music department.  However, if you don't know the "big picture", you might miss it's connection to the Christian Religion, Fundamentalist variety.

Friday, September 27, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, September 27, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Reflection.  Reflection is, both what you see in a lake or mirror, or a deep review of something, mainly profound in your life.  Good luck!

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 25, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption.  I've said this before, but this can be seen in 2nd [or higher] Language classes, in something called Immersion Training, where the "1st" language is spoken seldom or "not at all".

As for connection to our Theme, I can only see Negative Pole:  Be careful to not get absorbed by the Organization you (for example) work for.  Good Luck!

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, September 24, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review.  And yes, you can review all of the Organizations that (either) you work for, you support, and/or you get help from.  And then, go back to last Sunday, and recognize them.  Thank you!

Monday, September 23, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, September 23, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation.  This ties in with Organization (our Theme) quite well, because any changes, either proposed or attempted, are an experiment, which can go well, or bad.  But that's absolutely no reason to give up.

Sunday, September 22, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, September 22, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition.  This fits our Theme well, as it's always a good idea to recognize organizations that help you (and me), in our lives.  Thank you!

Weekly Theme: Week of September 22-28, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Organization.  Like many of these Themes and Words, this one has, at least two meanings.  One is, "...organization of my living space", sort of like cleaning my apartment, so that a visitor might see it as more organized than it is now.  The other has to do with charities, and places where, for example, music is played, such as an Orchestra Concert Hall, or an Opera Hall.  In other words, a charitable or arts "organization".

Saturday, September 21, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 21, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve.  This can be both a noun and a verb.  One sentence that works for both:  "I resolve to protect my resolve".   (Note that "protect" is the Theme for this week).

Friday, September 20, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, September 20, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Courage.  This is an extremely interesting Word, because often, the best form of Courage is to "just say NO".  There are three dangerous words out there:  "I Dare You!"  Just say No, especially if you believe the activity (i.e. Bungee Jumping) could be dangerous.  In addition, I strongly suggest saying NO to street drugs, as well as excessive alcohol.

Thursday, September 19, 2013

Words for the Day: Thursday, September 19, 2013

The Words for Today (Thursday) are Strength and Empowerment.  Do you know your own strength?  Do you feel empowered?  The answer may surprise you!

As for me, I feel both!  And I feel a bunch better than I did the last two days.  Thank all of you who sent wishes and prayers my way!

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 18, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Competence.  I'll be off, in a few hours, for one of the most interesting experiences of, it seems, an eternity!  :-)

So, the question exists, will I be competent to "be myself", and "correctly handle" this experience?

In general, will you be competent to handle what life throws at you today?  The answer may surprise you.  :-)

Thank you and best regards,

Kenneth Wayne Parker, Seattle, WA

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, September 17, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Endurance.  And it fits me to a tee!  This is the day before a Colonoscopy Procedure is to take place, and boy, am I going to endure it!

Monday, September 16, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, September 16, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Fertility.  This couples with our Theme very well, as people often want to use protection (i.e. condoms) when "practicing fertility".  Even the other direction works, as fertility can "protect the species".

Sunday, September 15, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, September 15, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Stability.  So how does stability affect protection?  If I go one direction, I might be trying to "protect stability", by resisting change.  Please note that this often doesn't get you into a comfortable spot.  But in the other direction, being in a stable position could make it easier to protect a person or a situation.  Think about it.

Weekly Theme: Week of September 15-21, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Protection.  There is protection and then there is protection.  One form, for example, is allowing an "outside agency" to "protect" one or more aspects of your life.  (For example, I belong to Lifelock).  However, I rely on Essence and the Universe for much of my protection.

Saturday, September 14, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 14, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Release.  There are several situations that call out for release.  One well known one is if you do something wrong and is stuck in jail or prison.  Another one, that fits our Theme is if things get uncomfortable in a situation of Animal Husbandry on a ranch.  And then, there are the "usual" blocks and barriers that fit in with being a human being on Earth.

Whatever the situation, look around:  You might find a Release Lever in your situation.  (It might be close to the Contrast Knob I forgot to mention last Thursday).  Good luck!

Friday, September 13, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, September 13, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Aspiration.  To continue with our Theme, this would be to aspire to be the best farmer you can be.  But don't feel left out:  No matter who you are, just aspire to be your personal best.

Thursday, September 12, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, September 12, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Contrast.  There are a lot of contrasts in life, especially when involved with Mother Earth.  It does take a lot of encouragement for those flowers to bloom, and the bees to fly, you know.

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 11, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Adaptability.  Also known as flexibility, this is a trait that helps anybody survive life on Planet Earth.  However, it is especially helpful for those who fit in with Husbandry (our Theme) say, working on a farm.

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Words for the Day: Tuesday, September 10, 2013

The Words for Today (Tuesday) are Agility and Grace.  And these Words don't necessarily mean "fast".  For example, take modern labyrinths (but please note that the entire article is interesting).  In general, people walk these, not only for exercise, but often for a spiritual experience.  And they walk them slowly, but gracefully.

Monday, September 9, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, September 9, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Acceleration.  Obviously, if talking about "post-cultivation" care of crops and animals (theme:  Husbandry), acceleration is great.  But be careful about other meanings for acceleration, such as (in our example) driving farm equipment too fast, causing accidents.  In addition, when driving on roads and highways, be careful about acceleration, to avoid speeding tickets.  Thank you!

Sunday, September 8, 2013

Words for the Day: Sunday, September 8, 2013

The Words for Today (Sunday) are Patience and Tolerance, both of which are absolutely vital for successful husbandry, especially for the first meaning of "care, cultivation and breeding of crops and animals".  These are great traits to have in general, also.

Weekly Theme: Week of September 8-14, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Husbandry.  When I see this (referred to as Animal Husbandry on Wikipedia), I immediately start asking about Wifery.  Guess what?  Wikipedia has that too, called Spiritual Wifery!  In general (especially for those who are too lazy to follow links), Husbandry is a followup to last week's theme of Cultivation, "the care, cultivation and breeding of crops and animals", but with another meaning of "management and conservation of resources".  Let's see how this fits in with the Words of this week (i.e. for example, Monday's "accelerated cultivation and breeding..."  etc).  Thank you!

Saturday, September 7, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 7, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Acknowledgement.  How does this tie in with Cultivation?  Probably in two directions.  On one hand, we cultivate a lifestyle, where we acknowledge those who help us.  And on the other, we acknowledge those who help us cultivate, say, better food.

Friday, September 6, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, September 6, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Kindness.  How do we cultivate kindness in the world?  Simple:  Be kind in our private lives!  Like the cliche, perform random acts of kindness!  And it's times like this, when there is talk of war, that this is the most important.

Thursday, September 5, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, September 5, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Encouragement.  So how does cultivation relate to encouragement?  I'll say this:  It takes courage to encourage.  Also, it is good to be selective in who, or what you encourage, as you will live with the results.  Thank you.

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 4, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Thoughtfulness.  Cultivating thoughtfulness is simple:  Think before you speak or act.  The funny thing is that, due to the speed of thought, those around you may not even notice that you are taking more time to think.

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, September 3, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Support.  So how do you cultivate support?  By knowing a lot of people.  How do you get to know a lot of people?  One way is to volunteer, which can put you in the position of supporting others in their events and experiences.

Monday, September 2, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, September 2, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Comfort.  So how do you cultivate comfort?  (On Facebook, I suggested "planting" a couch in the living room...)

Another way the theme might fit would be to cultivate crops in comfort (by using good farm equipment).

Sunday, September 1, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, September 1, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Nourishment.  This fits well with our Theme:  If you are going to cultivate crops, have them be crops that form nourishing food.

Weekly Theme: Week of September 1-7, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Cultivation.  According to the free dictionary, this Theme has multiple facets.  Besides planting crops, you can use education to cultivate life skills.  Let's see how well this fits in with the Words, this week.  (Spoiler alert:  It fits well with Sunday's Word).

Saturday, August 31, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, August 31, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Prosperity.  Choice for prosperity?  "Yes", say the human potential movement, some motivational speakers, as well as some parts of the metaphysical teachings.  There are, in fact, no shortage of sample affirmations for prosperity.  So what goes wrong for so many?  Conflicting beliefs.  A person may, for example, say how much they "choose" to become, say, a millionaire.  However, at the same time, they hold beliefs in why they don't deserve much money.  So pay attention to all of your beliefs.  They can be found.

Friday, August 30, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, August 30, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Liberation.  What is the opposite of liberation?  Imprisonment?  Is that our choice?  We might not think so, but look closer:  A choice might have been made to ignore civil laws, such that an action was made that breaks one or more of them.  In that case, the choice of liberation is simply to behave well in prison, such as to be released ("liberated") earlier.

Thursday, August 29, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, August 29, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Wisdom.  Staying with our theme, choices made through wisdom are the best kind.  And remember that life experience is what makes a person wise the fastest.  (Like that saying, "sadder, but wiser".  That's what happens when the life experience doesn't "feel good").

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, August 28, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Impartiality.  Impartiality is not easy to obtain, and that goes for impartial choices.  But choices can go better, to the extent that you can study all facets of that choice, without the usual "rose colored glasses".

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, August 27, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Consequence.  (Getting back to our theme):  Life is all about making choices.  And no matter what the choice, there is likely to be a consequence.  In some cases, the trick is to find the consequence that is easier to live with, long term.  So therefore, I am not attempting to discourage making choices.

Monday, August 26, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, August 26, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Elimination.  Note that I am absolutely not talking about "eliminating choice".  If anything, I am talking about eliminating issues, in our lives, that might stand in the way of making choices.

Sunday, August 25, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, August 25, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Self-Reliance.  In my last post, I went through details about choice.  One thing for sure, learning self-reliance will help you to make choices in a more effective, as well as conscious manner.

Weekly Theme: Week of August 25-31, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Choice.  I learned a lot about choice from an author named Jane Roberts. In one of her Seth books, titled "The Nature of Personal Reality", there are two chapters, both of which begin, "Which You? Which World". The first one gives you general information about how choices create universes (teaser:  Often, especially when the choice is emotionally intense, once you've made your "choice", somewhere, upstairs (whether "that" is called "higher self", your "guardian angel", or "essence"), something and/or someone wants to know how the "other choice" worked out.  One example, which could be emotionally challenging:  You're offered a promotion at work, but you have to move, say, from New York to Chicago.  However, your "significant other" can't stand Chicago, and suggests that the "relationship is off" if you move.  But you really want that promotion.  Both sides of this issue will be explored).

I mentioned the first chapter.  The next one has exercises, where you can learn how to consciously make choices.  I highly recommend the book.  Thank you!

Saturday, August 24, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, August 24, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Expansion.  Few examples of transformation are more striking than spiritual expansion.  Among other things, this gives you a big picture view of existence in general, as well as details of your own life.

However, be careful, as there is another kind of transition and/or transformation that can come about, due to a chronic overdose of delicious food items.  This is, of course, expansion of the body itself.  This can get uncomfortable.

Friday, August 23, 2013

Words for the Day: Friday, August 23, 2013

The Words for Today (Friday) are Trust and Faith.  While having faith in God, and trusting the Universe can help a person undergo positive transformations, we must be careful, especially when the question is about other people.  Faith should never be blind, for example, and trust must be earned.  And if that trust is violated, the road back to trust must be hard, as well as limited.  For example, there are layers of trust.

Thursday, August 22, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, August 22, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude.  Gratitude is great at any time, and helps the world go around.  However, it can be extra important, when you go through a life-changing transformation.  For example, thank those who help you through the experience.

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, August 21, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality.  One of my motto's is "Equal opportunity for all".  To tie this in with our themes, "equal opportunity to make positive life transformations".  (And note that the negative pole of equality is forced conformity.  That's a "transition" to avoid).

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, August 20, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence.  Google "define prudence" and you get (besides the links), "discretion in practical affairs".  I agree.  Be practical.  But be careful to not go overboard.  Why?  Because you might "transform" into a "prude".  (And yes, you can also google "define prude").

Monday, August 19, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, August 19, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence.  Besides laws of physics (i.e. law of gravity), there are federal (country) laws, as well as state and local laws.  Be careful of these, or else you might "undergo a personal transformation" from innocent to guilty.  :-)

Sunday, August 18, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, August 18, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness.  Based on our Themes, a positive transformation can start with self forgiveness, as a number of us feel we fall short in one way or another.  But this can occur from forgiveness of others as well, as it can heal anger, allowing us to transform, in a pleasant way.

Weekly Themes: Week of August 18-24, 2013

The Themes for this Week are Transition and Transformation.  This can be both serious and humorous.  (For example, this reminds me of the Transformers movies).  Life is full of transitions, which are often simply called "change".  These can be perceived as positive or negative.  Though transitions can be external (i.e. moving from one city to another), transformations are generally internal (i.e. "...change in form or appearance", according to Google).

May all your transformations be positive ones.

Saturday, August 17, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, August 17, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity.  If you acted according to our Theme, you may have initiated a project this week.  Did this project come with a certificate of authenticity?  :-)

Word for the Day: Friday, August 16, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation.  This is an excellent career path, if you know multiple languages.  There are other aspects to this Word, however.  For example, if you're working on a project (via our Themes), it is good to interpret the project from the point of view of those who will be likely to use the fruits of this project.  One small example:  a web site should be tested on all web browsers, including text and mobile browsers (because the browsers are interpreting the web site).

Thursday, August 15, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, August 15, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization.  A lot of people socialize these days via computer.  Examples include Twitter and Facebook.  Another example is online gaming.  But don't forget the importance of in-person meetings.  (In fact, there is a computer service called meetup, that helps people find in-person meetings).

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, August 14, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration.  We can use this week, so far, to follow a project from its precipitation/initiation (Theme), through sharing the idea (Sunday), which might inspire generous help from others (Monday), perhaps with meetings about acceptability (Tuesday), finally to digging in (concentrating, today).  See how these Words and Themes go together?

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, August 13, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Acceptability.  Be acceptable to yourself, and initiate acceptable projects.

Monday, August 12, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, August 12, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Generosity.  Even at the beginnings of a project (whether dropped into your lap, or voluntarily initiated), being generous with others helps the project go smoother.  And, in general, generosity helps the world go around.  I recommend a random act of generosity every day.

Sunday, August 11, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, August 11, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Sharing.  And yes, if you're going to start a project, so important that it "falls out of the sky", then it should be important enough to share.  Good luck!

Weekly Themes: Week of August 11-17, 2013

The Themes for this Week are Precipitation and Initiation.  (For precipitation, think dropping right out of the sky, such as rain or snow).  So if you're going to start a project, are you going to let it drop right into your lap, or are you going to take affirmative action to start it yourself?

Saturday, August 10, 2013

Words for the Day: Saturday, August 10, 2013

The Words for Today (Saturday) are Overview and Perspective.  As the Executive Summary of life, this can help one discover new topics, helping to determine which ones to concentrate on.  We all need to specialize, as there are only so many hours in a day.

Friday, August 9, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, August 9, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Reflection.  What can we discover about mirrors?  Besides the fact that they help with personal hygiene?  I've discovered that we are all mirrors for each other.  And also, several mirrors together can be funny (as in a Funhouse at a state fair).  If you put two mirrors opposite each other, the reflections can recede into infinity.

Thursday, August 8, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, August 8, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Study.  And believe it or not, you can discover things through study.  Especially if you pick a topic you can be excited about, and perhaps, one that is not commonly studied.  For example, I learned a lot about San Francisco history by studying microfilms of old newspapers.  One example:  Mt. Vesuvius erupted on April 7, 1906, just 11 days before the April 18, 1906 San Francisco Earthquake.  (Just the day before the Earthquake, the newspapers were telling people how to donate to volcano relief).  My personal suspicion is that the volcano eruption might have caused vibrations in the Earth's crust that helped trigger the San Andreas Fault.

Wednesday, August 7, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, August 7, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption.  So what can we discover about absorption?  For one, I discovered, many years ago, that Aloe Vera is absorbed by my skin, and can help heal burns.

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, August 6, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review.  Review is an important part of the Discovery process because, among other things, you want to find out if others have made the same discovery, and what they have done with it.

Monday, August 5, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, August 5, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation.  And how do people discover (for the world)?  By doing!  Not by listening to lectures or reading books (at least as much).

OK.  That was controversial.  Historians would absolutely disagree.  So I leave this post up in the air.  :-)

Sunday, August 4, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, August 4, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition.  What does it mean to say, "I recognize you"?  According to the dictionary, it depends on a prior encounter, whether in person, or via something like a painting or photograph.  Tying this to our Theme, recognition can be a discovery that you met before.

Weekly Theme: Week of August 4-10, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Discovery.  I once heard that there is a fine line between discovery and invention.  For example, part of "inventing" an electric light bulb was "discovering" that Tungsten can remain intact at high temperatures, while providing light.

Saturday, August 3, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, August 3, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve.  Location? (Theme?)  Well, resolutions can be made, regardless of your location.  :-)  (I would add that they can also be made at any time, not just at New Years).

One of my favorite sentences on this topic:  "I resolve to keep my resolve".

Friday, August 2, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, August 2, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Courage.  How does this tie in with Location (our Theme)?  Some locations require more courage than others to live in.  Weather, crime rate and employment opportunities all play a part.  Remember that the most effective courage might be the courage to say "No".

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Words for the Day: Thursday, August 1, 2013

The Words for Today (Thursday) are Strength and Empowerment.  Do you know your own strength?  Do you feel empowered?  The answers may surprise you, no matter what your location.

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, July 31, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Competence.  And believe it or not, some locations demand more competence, just to live there.  For example, to live in North Dakota (ND) requires enough competence to, either own, rent or share a home, with enough heating to survive challenging winters.  Also, I once saw a video of a ND Safeway parking lot, with wall sockets at each parking space, so you could plug in an engine block heater, when you go shopping in the winter.  Otherwise, in the space of the shopping trip, your engine could be frozen, not allowing you to start your car, when you return.

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, July 30, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Endurance.  And yes, some locations (our Theme) might require more endurance than others.

In general, I consider yoga to be a good part of endurance training.

Monday, July 29, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, July 29, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Fertility.  The "usual" meaning ties in with our Theme, as some locations are better than others to "be fruitful and multiply".  :-)

In general, remember that there are other meanings of fertility, such as a fertile imagination.

Sunday, July 28, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, July 28, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Stability.  And a stable location is a great thing to have.  Or maybe not, if it's stable, but you're chronically unhappy about it.  The best thing about stability is that you have more time for other things, such as investigating what might make you happier.

Weekly Theme: Week of 7/28 - 8/03/2013

The Theme for this Week is Location.  "Location, location, location!"  That's what "they" all say, right?  For example, what's the right location for you to live?  I can't answer that, of course, but there can be clues.  For example, if you don't like cold weather, the US State of Alaska might not be a good fit.  A good question to ask:  Do you think you can be comfortable, living at the location in question?

Saturday, July 27, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, July 27, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Release.  Last Thursday, I discussed a contrast knob.  Somewhere close to it, look for a "Release Lever", which should help you to release yourself from self-made boxes, barriers and prisons, that can come up in your life.

Friday, July 26, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, July 26, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Aspiration.  I believe I can combine this with our Themes in one sentence:  "I aspire to use my imagination to produce excellent compositions".  Good luck, folks!

Thursday, July 25, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, July 25, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Contrast.  Use your imagination to examine your life, and you should be able to find something like a "contrast knob".  This is important, as too much contrast can get scary, yet too little can get boring.

Wednesday, July 24, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, July 24, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Adaptability.  Another word for this is Flexibility, and a flexible imagination can result in many compositions, as any successful author, or music composer, can tell you.

In general, remember that a flexible person adapts to his/her surroundings.  An inflexible person, on the other hand, "requests" that his/her surroundings adapt to him/her!

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

Words for the Day: Tuesday, July 23, 2013

The Words for Today (Tuesday) are Agility and Grace.  An agile and graceful imagination is a great thing to have.  Challenge your mind.  Be useful to other people.  Stay young at heart, no matter your actual age.  And for physical agility and grace, try yoga.  Good luck, everyone!

Monday, July 22, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, July 22, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Acceleration.  Be selective with this one.  For example, accelerated imagination and spirituality is great!  However, be careful about excessive acceleration, inside of a motor vehicle, lest you attract the attentions of law enforcement.

Sunday, July 21, 2013

Words for the Day: Sunday, July 21, 2013

The Words for Today (Sunday) are Patience and Tolerance.  And a lot of both of these help with creativity, a restatement of our Themes.

Weekly Themes: Week of July 21-27, 2013

The Themes for this Week are Composition and Imagination.  We can combine these two into creation, especially creation of something read, watched and/or listened to.  YouTube is one place of many, to find attempts, both successful and not, of these themes.

Saturday, July 20, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, July 20, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Acknowledgement.  In my opinion, acknowledging people who have helped you is a part of a balanced lifetime.  And it takes knowledge to acknowledge.  :-)

Friday, July 19, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, July 19, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Kindness.  I consider this a gift to a balanced life, as it's easier to be kind to others, when you are balanced.  Also, a little of this goes a long way towards the health of planet Earth.

Thursday, July 18, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, July 18, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Encouragement.  And I encourage all of you to live your lives in a balanced way.  Part of that is discernment of who or what to encourage.

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, July 17, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Thoughtfulness.  And thinking, before speaking and/or acting, is a great way towards a balanced life.  A little of this goes a long way towards healing the earth, as well.

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, July 16, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Support.  This is part of a balanced life in two directions, both you supporting others, and being supported by others.  Find your support group.

Monday, July 15, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, July 15, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Comfort.  And a balanced life tends to be a comfortable life.  Not always, of course, but imbalance is where those jagged edges often come from.

Sunday, July 14, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, July 14, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Nourishment.  And what better to have, than a balanced, nourishing meal?

Weekly Theme: Week of July 14-20, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Balance.  When I look at the definition, one synonym I like is Equilibrium, which almost has the word Equal in it.  When in a state of balance, you often can see choice points easier than when in a state of instability.  In conclusion, I recommend a balanced life.

Saturday, July 13, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, July 13, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Prosperity.  And how does prosperity connect with our theme, conservation?  First, you have more natural resources, if you "conserve" them.  And second, you can pay less on your utility bill, if you conserve.  And a little can go a long way.

Friday, July 12, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, July 12, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Liberation.  And not liberation from Conservation.  Instead, liberation from the boxes and barriers we put up around ourselves, that prevent us from taking conservation seriously.

Thursday, July 11, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, July 11, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Wisdom.  First, this goes well with our Theme, as it is wise to conserve.  Think about how you interact with the natural resources of this world.  Do you think before you speak and/or act?  Remember that wisdom comes from life experience much more than from reading books (though books can be important).

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, July 10, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Impartiality.  To couple this with our Theme, impartial conservation would be to conserve all of the natural resources, without playing favorites.  And yes, impartiality is hard to find, no matter what the subject matter, including the news.

Tuesday, July 9, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, July 9, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Consequence.  Consequences of conservation?  (I do remember, as a child, my parents' water bill rate going up, because, since people were using less water, the water company needed to raise their profits).

That said, the main consequences are for the lack of conservation.

Monday, July 8, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, July 8, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Elimination.  And no, I'm not looking for people to eliminate conservation!  :-)

However, eliminating behavior that stands in the way of conservation and environmentalism would fit this Word very well.  Thank you in advance.

Sunday, July 7, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, July 7, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Self-Reliance.  Self-reliant conservation?  Well, I feel that conservation does have to start with us, the public.

Weekly Theme: Week of July 7-13, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Conservation.  What does it mean to conserve?  Use less?  I've lived through water shortages before (even to the point of taking "navy showers").  In general, I'd say "use smart", meaning use what you need, but don't go overboard (i.e. blowing your nose, throwing the tissue into the toilet, and flushing is, in my opinion, going overboard on use of water anywhere in the country).

Saturday, July 6, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, July 6, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Expansion.  In general, I consider spiritual expansion quite welcome.  But be careful about expansion of the middle of the human body, which can be caused by eating lots of delicious items.

Friday, July 5, 2013

Words for the Day: Friday, July 5, 2013

The Words for Today (Friday) are Trust and Faith.  What is "welcome" this time, is to understand the real meaning of these two Words.  For example, trust must be earned (and can easily be violated), and faith should not be blind.  Watch out for those who demand your trust, especially if they act opaque, like many governments do these days [i.e.  withholding lots of their "state secrets", under the guise of "Top Secret"].

Thursday, July 4, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, July 4, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude.  And can you imagine how welcome it is to be thanked for work you did?  Think about that, when you're being served in stores, restaurants, offices, and so forth.

Wednesday, July 3, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, July 3, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality.  Taken from one direction (and normally quite welcome) is Equal Opportunity.  This is what Civil Rights laws get you.  However, there is another angle of equality, which may not be as welcome. This is where everybody is asked to look and/or act the same.  Another word for this is Conformity.

Tuesday, July 2, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, July 2, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence.  How can Prudence be Welcome?  When "practical affairs" are handled, in a way to avoid being "offensive to other people", the lack of problems can, itself, be welcome.  But be careful, as going overboard with prudence can make you seem like a prude.

Monday, July 1, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, July 1, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence.  And innocence is definitely welcome, whether it is being found not guilty, or the innocence of little children.

Sunday, June 30, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, June 30, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness.  And usually, forgiveness is welcome when it comes.  (The other side is less common, unless we're welcoming the wrong people...)

Weekly Theme, Week of 6/30 - 7/06/2013

The Theme for this Week is Welcome.  And being greeted cordially, when approaching an unknown location can be quite welcome.  (This one's pretty simple.  Let's see how it fits with the Daily Words).

Saturday, June 29, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, June 29, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity.  Are you part of a Partnership?  (If you're married, I believe the answer would be "Yes").  Is the Partnership authentic?  (An example of a non-authentic marriage is if, say, the man marries, while still married to another woman).

In general, be authentic to yourself.  Thank you!

Friday, June 28, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, June 28, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation.  In a partnership, the members could be from different countries, and speak different languages.  This makes an interpreter a possible job that is needed.  Separate from this, if the partnership is a business that sells via the Internet, people that know these other languages could be needed.  So learn other languages, and you could get a good job.

Thursday, June 27, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, June 27, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization.  Members of partnerships tend to socialize with each other (and you probably don't want to know too much about the exceptions).  But widen your scope, whether this is a business partnership, or a marital one.  Making outside friends is always helpful.

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, June 26, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration.  "You get what you concentrate on".  (I've heard that, or close to it many times).  Coupling this to our Theme, Partnerships work best if the partners concentrate on the well being of each other.  In addition, it helps if they concentrate on excelling in any products and/or services for their outside environment.

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, June 25, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Acceptability.  And partnerships make a difference, depending on how acceptable they are.  In addition, it makes a difference how well the partners get along with each other.

Monday, June 24, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, June 24, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Generosity.  Partnerships (our Theme) work better when individual partners are generous with each other.  But the Partnership itself needs to be generous with the world at large.  But today's Word stands by itself also, because acts of generosity (random or not) help the World go around.

Sunday, June 23, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, June 23, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Sharing.  And yes, sharing with your partners sounds like a good idea.  But I see another angle to this:  The project that the partnership is based on needs to share its fruits with the outside world.  It works both ways.

Weekly Theme: Week of June 23-29, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Partnership.  What does it mean to be a partner.  Putting "define partnership" into Google included "An association of two or more people...".  OK  --  Associations can be small, but it did say "...two or more...".  Let's let this develop over this coming week.

Saturday, June 22, 2013

Words for the Day: Saturday, June 22, 2013

The Words for Today (Saturday) are Overview and Perspective.  These are important for me, and also, my Community Responsibility.  As the "big picture view", and "executive summary", these are important for learning.  In other words, the forest that can then contain the trees.

Friday, June 21, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, June 21, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Reflection.  Unlike prior Words this week, this is an individual action, sort of like an extended review.  In life, however, we all perform the act of being mirrors for each other, which could be seen as a type of mentoring.

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, June 20, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Study.  And imagine how much easier it is, when you are studying something, if you are able to ask questions?  That's where guidance and mentoring come in.

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, June 19, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption.  In science fiction, there is mention of taking a pill before going to sleep, and then having a speaker in your pillow give lectures, while you "sleep".  Also, when learning alternative languages, "immersion training" means that the language being learned is the only one spoken.  These language classes may even include an extended visit to a country, where the intended language is spoken.

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, June 18, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review.  There are many types of reviews.  For example, you can review your shopping list, before leaving a grocery store.  (Did you find the item?  Was it too expensive?  etc).  On the other end of the scale, you can perform a life review, either during a life crisis, or when you die (which can certainly be considered a crisis!)  And having a mentor for review can be quite helpful.  (Even for the shopping list where, for example, you can call your significant other, to see if you've missed any items).

Monday, June 17, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, June 17, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation.  Since this is tied to education (our Themes), it reminds me of my High School Chemistry class, where its teacher himself gave me (as well as any other students who asked) individual guidance, regarding experiments and tests.

Sunday, June 16, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, June 16, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition.  Can you recognize those who teach you, through your life?  In other words, know your mentors.

Weekly Themes, Week of June 16 - 22, 2013

The Themes for this Week are Guidance and Mentor.  Looking at the meanings, Guidance is what you are learning, and the Mentor is who is teaching you.  Not bad!

Saturday, June 15, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, June 15, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve.  Members of families make individual resolutions (and not necessarily only at the New Year).  However, there is a topic called "Family Resolutions", where the family acts as a unit, making plans for what they wish to accomplish.

Friday, June 14, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, June 14, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Courage.  In my opinion, it takes courage to effectively run a family.  And I equally state this for the Mother and Father.  But even more, it can take courage to be a child in a family also.  Think about that!

Thursday, June 13, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, June 13, 2013

The Words for Today (Thursday) are Strength and Empowerment.  Coupling this with Domestication (our Theme) suggests alternative meanings for both Words.  Otherwise, we can get into topics such as bullying, where physical strength takes priority over, say, moral strength or strength of character.  Go for it!  :-)

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, June 12, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Competence.  Competence in domestic situations?  Of course!  And not just in families, either:  I just got 2.5 million hits, googling incompetent day care.  (And, as I'm composing this, a day care fatality is on the news).  So be careful, folks!

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, June 11, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Endurance.  Domestication?  Hard to endure?  Families?  Yes, mine was, when I was growing up.  :-O

Please note that one accepted form of endurance training is Yoga.

Monday, June 10, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, June 10, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Fertility.  Obviously, many "domestic households" rely on "be fruitful and multiply" to grow their family.  But look for other meanings of fertility, such as "a fertile imagination".

Sunday, June 9, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, June 9, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Stability.  Coupling this with our Theme simply means a "stable living environment".  I see this as something to look for, especially if there are children involved.

Weekly Theme: Week of June 9 - 15, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Domestication.  When I looked on Google for insight, I got (from Wikipedia), "domestication theory".  In a nutshell, this means that we take new technology and then "tame" it for "everyday use".  Take smartphones, for example.  I now have, in my pocket, hardware (Samsung T-Mobile Sidekick), which runs the Linux Kernel, supporting Google Android.  In other words, I could (but don't) run software on this phone[1] that makes it into a full-featured Linux Server, such as would have been found in Universities, taking entire rooms, back in the 1980's!  But look at how "tame" smartphones are, these days.

I'm going to take this even one step farther.  My first computer job was in August, 1974, at Fireman's Fund Insurance in San Francisco, CA.  Their computer systems (IBM 360/370 technology) took up an entire floor of a building that took up a city block.  But guess what?  Running Hercules as an emulator[2], I can run MVS 3.8j, which was it's current operating system, up to the early 1980's.

----------------- [Footnotes]-----------------

[1]  As one example, I found kWS, web server software, on Google's Android "Store".  If you made your phone into a "WiFi Hotspot", it has the capability to put a web page onto any device that connected.

[2] An Emulator allows one computer to run software, which "emulates" the hardware of another computer.

----------------------------------------

Gee!  This is a bit more complex than most of the entries in this BLOG.  Don't expect that every day!  :-)

Best regards,

Kenneth Parker, Seattle, WA

Saturday, June 8, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, June 8, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Release.  This Word can be either a noun or a verb (for example, "Next week, we will release the next release of a [book | movie | tv series | etc.]".  But another meaning of the verb is to set something free, for example from confinement.  Food for thought...

Friday, June 7, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, June 7, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Aspiration.  A reminder that our Theme is Health.  Why?  Because Google provided me with a joke by, when I plugged Aspiration into Google, putting the first, suggested followup word: pneumonia, with the following as one of its primary links.  :-)

When I "forced" only "aspiration" into Google, it put first the following Wikipedia disambiguation page, where my preferred synonym (ambition) comes in last, after, among others, many more medical meanings.

Thursday, June 6, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, June 6, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Contrast.  How much contrast is healthy?  I suggest that the answer is going to be different for different people.  Some like simplicity.  Others like adventure.  But definitely look for that "Contrast Knob", so that you can control it for yourself.

Word for the Day: Wednesday, June 5, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Adaptability.  Another word for this is flexibility, and both of these are important to Health (our Theme).  For example, if your food tastes are flexible, you can choose between food items, based on how healthy the food item is for a human body, rather than only basing choices on cost and taste.  Research is a good idea.

Words for the Day: Tuesday, June 4, 2013

The Words for Today (Tuesday) are Agility and Grace.  Both of these can lead to good health.  Please note that Graceful often means slow.  Especially when doing a Labyrinth Walk.

Monday, June 3, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, June 3, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Acceleration.  The way this ties in with our Theme is via a cautionary tale:  Excessive acceleration of motor vehicles can make them hard to control.  And when they make contact with other objects (including other motor vehicles), this can lead to unhealthy conditions for any life forms, that may be either inside one or more of these motor vehicles, or (worse), struck by one of them.  Note that this can also apply to two-wheeled vehicles without motors.  In other words, be careful!  :-)

Words for the Day: Sunday, June 2, 2013

The Words for Today (Sunday) are Patience and Tolerance.  And when you are healthy, both of these Words are easier to live by.

Let's look at what happens when things go wrong.  I'll use myself as an example, since I recently fell down a couple of stairs, and had to heal a skinned knee.   I was in immediate pain, which is hard to tolerate.  Also, I felt that ice on the knee would help lower the pain level.  So I was quite impatient, since I was a few miles from my apartment, where the ice was.

Meditation to the rescue!  :-)

This quickly helped, providing both a level of patience, as well as some tolerance, enough to get me on the right bus to get home, where ice, peroxide and Excedrin could be found.  Health returns!

Weekly Theme: Week of June 2-8, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Health.  How does it feel to be healthy?  Often, health provides the absence of feeling, because pain (or other "unusual" body sensations) deliver warnings, that something's not going well.  You might even consider pain to be a "distress signal" from the body.  So comfort (the Word from last Monday) can (but not always) mean you're healthy.

Word for the Day: Saturday, June 1, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Acknowledgement.  And it takes knowledge to acknowledge someone.  And it is a service to acknowledge those who have provided service to you.

Friday, May 31, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, May 31, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Kindness.  I'm going to go out on a limb, and make a guess:  If 1/100 of our population performed a kind act each day, the world would become a fantastically greater place to live.

My personal Source:  A book titled, The 100th Monkey.  When searching for it, a Wikipedia Article was very kind, going even farther on the concept, so I'm learning something new, publishing this Word!  (What comes around goes around).

Thursday, May 30, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, May 30, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Encouragement.  And we can encourage good Service by using a Weekly Theme for 7 weeks ago, "Patronage".  (In other words, be a patron to companies you wish to encourage.  For example, I shop at Costco, because their managers treat their employees well).

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, May 29, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Thoughtfulness.   And true Service is best, when it is provided by a person who is "full of thought".

My apologies to those on the email list, because of the multiple attempts needed to post this.

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, May 28, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Support.  And how big of a Service, than to support another human being?

Monday, May 27, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, May 27, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Comfort.  And it is a special type of service to provide comfort for another person.

Sunday, May 26, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, May 26, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Nourishment.  And providing good nourishment can be quite a needed service.

Weekly Theme: Week of 5/26 to 6/01/2013

The Theme for this Week is Service.  Wikipedia calls this an Intangible Commodity.  My take is that, to the people who benefit, services can seem quite tangible.

Saturday, May 25, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, May 25, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Prosperity.  Complete prosperity?  Well, completing projects might make it easier to sell them in the marketplace.

Please note:  Today marks the end of a "Lesser Year", with the theme of Truth.  Tomorrow begins the second of three "Lesser Years".  It's theme is Love.

Friday, May 24, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, May 24, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Liberation.  To complete a path that leads to liberation?  Complete liberation (as opposed to partial liberation)?  This is one of the paradoxes we come to, when we combine the daily Word to the weekly Theme.

Thursday, May 23, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, May 23, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Wisdom.  And I suspect we are talking about the wisdom to complete projects, before committing to beginning too many new ones.

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, May 22, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Impartiality.  Complete impartiality?  Impartial completion of needed projects?  Don't try too hard to find the first, including in the News field.

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, May 21, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Consequence.  And there are consequences, starting projects, and other consequences, "completing" them.  And there are special versions of consequences for those who start lots of projects, but never seem to be able to complete them.

Monday, May 20, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, May 20, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Elimination.  Complete elimination?  Not so sure about that one.  Elimination of what prevents completion (of, say, a project)?  I sure have "suffered" from procrastination in the past...

Sunday, May 19, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, May 19. 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Self-Reliance.  This is certainly a good trait to have, to make completing projects easier.

Weekly Theme: Week of May 19 - 25, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Completion.  Now it's time for me to make a confession:  It's easier for me to start a project, than it is for me to complete one!  :-)

Saturday, May 18, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, May 18, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Expansion.  And what would be better than expanding your vision?  Certainly not expanding the middle of your body, by eating too many things that are delicious.  :-)

Friday, May 17, 2013

Words for the Day: Friday, May 17, 2013

The Words for Today (Friday) are Trust and Faith.  What does it mean to "trust your vision"?  Or how about "having faith in your vision"?  My take is that it's where you trust (and have faith in) your connection to the Universe.

As for other people?  Trust must be earned, and faith should never be blind.

Thursday, May 16, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, May 16, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude.  This really helps the World go around, folks!  So as you visualize what you have, and what situations are better than before, give thanks!

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, May 15, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality.   There are two slants on this, one which sounds good, and the other, not so much.  The good vision for equality is, "Equal opportunity for all".  In other words, put the opportunities out in front of us, and people will naturally gravitate to what interests them.

The "not so nice vision" of equality is forced conformance.  In other words, [paraphrasing], "You better conform, or you're in deep trouble".  Schools are infamous for this.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, May 14, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence.  A prudent vision?  Well, prudence is being practical in everyday life.  Vision is definitely part of that.  Just don't go overboard and turn into a prude.  Thank you.

Monday, May 13, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, May 13, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence.  Are your visions "innocent" or "guilty"?  If you can look at the vision in a calm, relaxed and neutral way, it's probably innocent.

Sunday, May 12, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, May 12, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness.  Forgive me my vision?  Hopefully you won't get into a situation like that.  But I could see things like, "Forgive me my lack of vision, that caused me to run into you".

And forgiveness itself?  Remember that Forgive normally does not mean to forget, as things generally don't work that way.  What I liked was when the word was turned around.  To "Give Forth", such as "Giving forth love to the person who was thoughtless around you".

Thank you and best regards,

Kenneth Parker, Seattle, WA

Weekly Theme: Week of May 12-18, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Vision.  When we think of vision, we think of two round objects close to our forehead, that "show us things" around us.  But there are other kinds of vision also.  For example, spiritual visions, that might come while in a meditation.  Or, as I regularly experience, the ability to see inside my body, while my eyes are closed.  (This helps me to keep healthier).

Saturday, May 11, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, May 11, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity.  What next?  A "Certificate of Authenticity" for all human beings?  Blade runner sure took up a topic similar to that:  Instead of a "Field Sobriety Test, a "field android test"?

Friday, May 10, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, May 10, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation.  Our world needs a lot of people with this skill.  I remember how difficult it was, back in 1997, when I spent a month and a half in Mexico.  In the United States, you see a lot of, otherwise english language commercials, but with the three words, "Se Habla Espanol".  However, when I was in Mexico, their equivalent was few and far between.  (An ad, mainly in Espanol, but with two words in it, "English Spoken").

Thursday, May 9, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, May 9, 2013

The Word for the Day (Thursday) is Socialization.  And socialization is a (mainly temporary) Union between two or more human beings (as well as other, social species, such as bees and ants).

Have fun, folks!

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, May 8, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration.  And (to go out on a limb a bit), concentration makes for a better Union.  It certainly has been proven (at least negatively) that you get what you concentrate on.

So let's concentrate on the good in our lives.

Thank you and best regards,

Kenneth Parker, Seattle, WA

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, May 7, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Acceptability.  People like to think of themselves as acceptable people.  But to who?  Other people?  Or (even better), themselves?  Look at yourself in a mirror.  That will help.

Monday, May 6, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, May 6, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Generosity.  And definitely, generosity helps in "the State of the Union", whether it's your "personal union" (meaning who's with you to help keep your heart beating), our country's union (as in, for the USA, a speech by the current president), or how we are  all  united by our "roots", in the Universe.

Good luck, folks!

Kenneth Parker, Seattle, WA

Sunday, May 5, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, May 5, 2013

The Word for the Day is Sharing.  Sharing a great union?  Sounds good to me.  Can you think of others?  Post in my comments, please.

Thank you and best regards,

Ken Parker, Seattle, WA

Weekly Theme: Week of May 5 - 11, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Union.  There was a Social Media experiement where people would take "The State of our Union is _______________________", and fill in the blank.  Boy was it hilarious!  (One I liked as "The State of our Union is Thirsty", regarding Marco Rubio's unexpected grab at a water bottle).

But what sort of a State of your Personal Union do you have?  The answer might surprise you.

Saturday, May 4, 2013

Words for the Day: Saturday, May 4, 2013

The Words for Today (Saturday) are Overview and Perspective.  The foundation of your life, this can be paraphrased as the "Executive Summary" of life.  Yes, see the forest, as well as the trees.  And it's also an extreme tool for intergrating your life.

Friday, May 3, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, May 3rd, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Reflection.  How well do you accept yourself?  One potentially scary way to check is to gaze at yourself in front of a large mirror.  For extra credit (but only if it's  safe to do so), try gazing at yourself without clothes.  Can you accept all of yourself?  Anything you can  not  accept is something to be pondered over, even possibly with a counselor.

When you start embracing your mirror self, you are finally in the process  of integrating yourself.

Thursday, May 2, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, May 2, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Study.  Yes, study!  That is definitely a more active way of learning than yesterday's.  But, even here, it's not all via textbooks.  You can study insects (like I did, earlier in life), by watching them, perhaps catching some and then letting them go.  But I had an ulterior motive:  Allergy to bee and wasp stings.  So, knowing what they actually want helps me to not being in the way.

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, May 01, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption.  This is a great way of learning, in my opinion, as the biggest grunt part of this is "practically done for you".  All you need to do is to pay attention.  The best example is "immersion training" in a foreign language, where people who speak your natural language are few and far between.  (In late 1997, I tried this in Mexico.  I got far, where I stopped needing a "phrase book", but was constantly asking people, "Mas Despacio, por fa vor" [speak slower, please].  They were generally happy to cooperate, and I got to know quite a few friends there (even if short term)).

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, April 30, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review.  This is, of course, a wonderful to integrate your life.  And there are so many types of review.  It can be small, such as reviewing why something you said to a "significant other" backfired.  And it can be big, such as Life Review, which really should take place after death because, if you don't learn from your personal history, you are likely to make the same mistakes in your next try.

Monday, April 29, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, April 29, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation.  All life is an experiment.  What's important is to recognize when it occurs.

Sometimes, you are in some sort of "sandbox" or "Playground", during the day, and other times, you are in a deadly serious situation, where any mistakes could create life or death.  (And everything in between).

Just knowing where you "stand" in any moment may be the most important thing in the world for you.

Sunday, April 28, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, April 28, 2013

The Word for the Day (Sunday)  is Recognize.  I almost hinted at the in the just proor post, but I absolutely honor and recognize those who have helped me to be what I am.  In fact, a posthumas shout-out to Dr. Keith MacNab, my junior Chemistry teacher, who showed me I could excel in High School, which allowed me to make the "honor role" in the Senior year:  Go Drake!  (Sir Francis Drake high school in San Anselmo, north of the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.  A shorter trip is via the Larkspur ferry terminal, where regular ferry boats (passengers only) run back and forth.

Theme for the Week: Week of 4/28 - 5/04/2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Integrationtion.  I hereby "recognize" that I made a mistake and made the Theme the same as the Daily Word.

But integration, when it means integrating other parts of yourself into you, is a thankless task, but one that needs to be done, or you'll forever be chasing "Strands of Consciousness", just like those in the Dante Inferno section before Circle 1 where chasing banners, without ever getting closer to them.

I'm leaving the following paragrah in, because it inspired me.  But I'm also putting it in as a "comment" to the post it belons to, Sunday's Word:  "Unfortunately, family and friends [in some cases "frenemies"] use the past to forecast the future, ignoring what is happening in the present time.  I wish people would learn how important the present is.  In fact, it's your window to rippling through to the future AND TO THE PAST.  Keep this in mind, folks.  And remember to smell the roses, while you are at it.  Thanks!"

Saturday, April 27, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, 4/27213

The Word for Today is Resolve.  This is a strange word, that means both a noun and a verb.  For example, "I firmly resolve to not lose my resolve".  :-)

Please note, folks, that resoltions are good for other parts of the year, than simply New Years Day.

Friday, April 26, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, April 26, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Courage.  One note hear:  It often takes more courage to say "NO", than it is to (literally), take part in a daredevil feat,  How does it help you, in your life to, say, bungee jump, Skydiving (especially the sort where you don't want to open shutes, until actually need it.  What could possibly go wrong?
Finally notice that daredevils are in  high surplus,  BUT I haven't (even once) encountered the word, "DareAngel"!.

Thursday, April 25, 2013

Words for the Day: Thursday, April 25, 2013

The two Words for Today (Thursday) are Strength and Empowerment.  Do you know your own Strength?  Do you feel emowered?  These can be mighty important questions to ask yourself.  And, of course, survival gets in there someday.  Take a look at my Facebook page (sea7kenp) to see a more involved post on this.   It's mostly public.  Thanks!

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, April 24, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) was Competence.  Does the fact that I skipped days make me incompetent, to provide the service of this BLOG?  (Of course I don't think so, because of a mild dose of "Boobie Hatch Stress Syndrome").  But back to the topic at hand:  The Peter Principle, authored by Lawrence J. Peter and Raymon Hull suggested that people get promoted, over and over, until they become mildly incompetent (meaning they might get "mediocre" performance reviews, and a lower percentage of raises, than if they work smarter).  However, according to that previous book reference, they are not likely to be fired for incompetency.  (That's left for the "ultra incompetent", or criminal employees).

The only problem?  This doesn't seem to be correct any more.  Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert Comic Strip, as well as a short-lived Dilbert TV series, and several books, including The Dilbert Principle.  Ponder the differences between these two books, and ask older people how it was in the "good old days".  (Believe me, they'll know, and typically (if asked sincerely, as well as nicely), will be glad to tell you about it).
