The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence.  Unlike yesterday's word (innocence), this one fits better with our theme (usefulness), because being useful is practical.

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence.  It is "useful" [this week's theme] to pay attention to the laws of the land, so as to remain innocent.

Word for the Day: Sunday, October 28, 2012

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness.  There is a special category of apology and forgiveness (or lack, thereof), when a person lacks usefulness say, in a paying job.  There is even a formal event, having to do with this, called the "Performance Review".

Weekly Theme: Week of 10/28 - 11/03/2012

The Theme for this Week is Usefulness.  It is common to want to feel useful.  As a child, I wanted this, but was frequently considered to be in the way.  In business, there is a concept called qualifications.  But sometimes, the ones concentrated on (i.e. college degree for, say, social worker) are less important than a general one (ability, and desire to listen).

Be useful to yourself.

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity.  The more I look at it, the more I am convinced that living life authentically is a practical, economic way to live.  Why?  Because lack of economy (i.e. hoarding and/or wasting) can be extremely impractical, opening a person to a pattern of thinking that can lead to living a lie.

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation.  This is an excellent career move, if you know more than one language.  And if you can think in more than one language, there is a mental flexibility that, in my opinion, makes it easier to interpret what occurs in your life.

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization.  Let's look at our themes:  Economy and Practicality.  Economic socialization would be having fewer friends, but being closer with the ones you have.  Practicality speaks for itself.  ;-)

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Sharing.  In general, I consider it good to share with others.  However, I suggest being economical in your sharing.  For example, we are close to a political election in the USA.  And, every day, I get emails from all over, wanting more and more contributions.  If I added every one of those up, it would mean not paying rent, as well as not eating.  So be practical, folks!

The Themes for this Week are Economy and Practicality.  And, yes, being economical is practical.  And handling your finances in a practical manner typically includes not wasting your money.

The Words for Today (Saturday) are Overview and Perspective.  This entire week is about ways of learning.  In this case, this is both how managers learn, and how everyone tends to learn about topics that are not on their "Major" or "Minor" list (from school).  But for all topics, it is important to always hold the "Big Picture" view, and to keep a perspective on it.

The Word for Today (Friday) is Reflection.  There are two meanings to this word.  1. Careful consideration, which is a deeper form of study.  2.  Seeing yourself, such as in a mirror, or in a person around you.  Both of these are forms of learning.

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Study.  Some organizations require more study from their members than others.  Of course, the most extreme are the organizations that are called "schools".  But in my "day job" (computer professional), we were asked to keep current, and there was a certain amount of training included in the job.

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption.  It's connection with Organization (our Theme) is a cautionary tale.  Because some organizations (such as big corporations) like to "absorb" their employees, so that they are no longer independent human beings.  Don't let them do that to you!

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review.  After yesterday's experiment comes today's review.  At least, that's how it worked when I was in a High School Chemistry class.  But it sure helps me to figure out how I did.  (Joke review:  "Did the building catch fire?  No?  Good.  Review completed").

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation.  One of my favorite high school classes was Chemistry.  And I just figured out that it blended our Theme with a number of the Words for this week:  Organized experiments (important, to avoid injury or worse).  Followed by Review and Study (Tuesday's and Thursday's Words, respectively).  That teacher was good!

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition.  This goes well with the Theme, as I most certainly recognize organizations that have helped me throughout my life.

Incidentally, I see a higher meaning to "recognize", than simply recalling someone's name that you see on a sidewalk.  This is "public recognition", which can help the reputation of a person (or organization).

Weekly Theme: Week of October 14-20, 2012

The Theme for this Week is Organization.  I see two meanings here that are related:  Organization verses chaos.  And a group of people working together, whether it's a non-profit organization or a for-profit corporation.  And you can even have "organized chaos", such as a street gang.

A well-run organization can act a lot like a person, but I most certainly do not believe that a corporation is a person.

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve.  As stated before, this is both a noun and a verb (i.e. "I resolve to keep my resolve").  But the funniest thing is that the verb can become a noun of its own:  "I resolve to keep my New Years Resolutions".  Let's bring the other version of the Word into the picture, by putting some determination (resolve) into those New Years Resolutions.

The Word for Today (Monday) is Fertility.  Continuing with our Theme (Protection), long-term protection of a species requires Fertility.  In other words, each species has some sort of "message" to its members to, "be fruitful and multiply".

That said, remember that there are multiple meanings for fertility, including having a fertile imagination.

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Stability.  Guess what?  It's easier to protect someone or something, in a stable environment.  But be careful, because you might not want to live in an environment that is too stable.

The Theme for this Week is Protection.  Be careful what you protect.  Family, friends, your home, and so forth are fine.  But protecting your limitations is just, plain silly.

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Contrast.  Working a farm (theme = Husbandry) is a life of contrasts.  One day, everything is routine (even if hard work).  And another day is scary as the dickens (for example, a tornado).  But remember, contrast is present for everybody, and you wouldn't want it any other day, as "boring" is much worse.

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Adaptability.  When we consider our Theme (Husbandry), this word makes a lot of sense:  It takes a lot of flexibility to both run a farm, and be an effective husband in a marriage.

In general, accelerated spiritual growth is good.  But be careful of too much acceleration in motor vehicles.
