Word for the Day: Monday, December 31, 2012

The Word for Today (Monday) is Comfort.  And having a comfortable place to hang out in is definitely something to celebrate.

Happy New Year!

Sunday, December 30, 2012

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 30, 2012

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Nourishment.  And guess what?  Good nourishing meals are definitely something to celebrate!

Weekly Theme: Week of 12/30/2012 - 1/5/2013

The Theme for this Week is Celebration.  And what do we have to celebrate?  I hope you include yourself in your answer.

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 29, 2012

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Prosperity.  Some consider the Bible to be a special example of Revelation (which is the theme for this week).  And, of course, there are others who contest this.  But a bible verse (Mark 8:36) does a great job of tying the recent United States election to today's Word:  "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"

Word for the Day: Friday, December 28, 2012

The Word for Today (Friday) is Liberation.  When looking at revelations [theme], whether in the Bible, or in other writings, take a look at whether they tend to free (or liberate) other people, or if they are more likely to enslave them.  Remember the words in the Bible, "The Truth will set you free".

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 27, 2012

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Wisdom.  Well, I guess the best Revelations are the wisest ones, right?  :-)

One reminder:  Gaining wisdom is best, if it includes real-life experience.  Book reading, though helpful, often doesn't take into account that we all experience life in our own way.

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 26, 2012

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Impartiality.  One might contest the relationship between today's Word and Revelation (our Theme).  However, if not impartial, that means that the person giving the revelation is putting his/her own opinions in with the "surprising, secret data".  Doesn't make it seem quite as useful, does it?

Tuesday, December 25, 2012

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 25, 2012

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Consequence.  It's good to do revelations, if that is one of your gifts, but be careful of the details of the "surprising facts" that you reveal, because not everyone is ready to hear the secrets of the Universe.  In fact, that can be so true, that it could be said that there are consequences to revelation.

Monday, December 24, 2012

Word for the Day: Monday, December 24, 2012

The Word for Today (Monday) is Elimination.  And, just like with some other Themes from the past*, my take is that it is best to eliminate what stands in the way of Revelation.

(*Explanation:  These Words repeat themselves every 49 days.  The Themes repeat themselves every 49 weeks).

Sunday, December 23, 2012

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 23, 2012

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Self-Reliance.  In my opinion, this ties in with our Theme in that, if we are self-reliant enough to handle our worldly needs, it can be easier for us to accurately receive "new and surprising information", via revelation.

Weekly Theme: Week of December 23-29, 2012

The Theme for this Week is Revelation.  This is a word with an uncomplicated meaning, but with religious connotations.  In its simplest form (according to "define revelation" in Google), it's either "a surprising and previously unknown fact", or "the making known of a secret or the unknown".  Besides giving its own definition, Google also links to alternative definitions, which can include the connotations.  For example, both dictionary.reference.com and merriam-webster.com suggest it's God who's doing the disclosing or revealing.

Saturday, December 22, 2012

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 22, 2012

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Expansion.  A philosophy of expansion can either work or not work, depending on type of expansion.  For example, if used with spiritual expansion, you're probably ok.  But if used with bodily expansion, caution is suggested, to avoid obesity.

Friday, December 21, 2012

Words for the Day: Friday, December 21, 2012

The Words for Today (Friday) are Trust and Faith.  And a philosophy of trust and faith includes selectivity.  For example, trust God and have faith in the Universe.  With all others, ensure that faith is not blind, and realize that trust must be earned, and can be violated.  Simple enough?

Thursday, December 20, 2012

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 20, 2012

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude.  And I give my ultimate gratitude to the fantastic woman, on the phone at the Seattle Crisis Clinic, when I had an issue last Monday with water, as in I was dehydrated.  I don't usually tell stories on the Daily Word, but this one's great, as I, myself needed some help, and a cheerful female voice, on the other end helped me through a situation where my left foot was on the edge of one Universe, and my right foot was on the edge of another.  Now this is where people go who are drunk, by the way (as I have observed other times I've been between realities).  But other things can also cause it, including exhaustion, drugs (either prescribed or street), or even dreams (especially nightmares).

To make a long story short, the woman on the other end waited, while I went into the kitchen to drink my three waters (Fiji, symbolizing truth, Crystal Geyser, symbolizing love, and Iceland Spring, symbolizing beauty or energy).  I was back in balance in seconds, and profusely thanked this wonderful woman, and we hung up.  Folks, don't be afraid to ask for help!

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 19, 2012

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality.  As I see it, there are two philosophies of equality, one based on fear, and the other much more evolved.  The fear-based philosophy attempts forced conformity, because of a fear of those who think, speak and/or act differently than the ones in power.  (Note that this is relative, as it makes sense to "conform" to, at least, the laws that help with public safety).  The philosophy that I like is one of equal opportunity, especially to the extent that uniqueness is, at least tolerated, or (even better) embraced.

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 18, 2012

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence.  An online dictionary defines this as "discretion in practical affairs".  In my opinion, prudence makes a good philosophy of life, since a good way of doing this is to think before speaking and/or acting.

Monday, December 17, 2012

Word for the Day: Monday, December 17, 2012

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence.  And yes, a philosophy of innocence makes for a more pleasant life than a philosophy of being guilty, whether it's an emotional issue of feeling guilty all the time, or a more literal issue of behaving in such a way, as to actually be declared guilty in a court of law.

Sunday, December 16, 2012

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 16, 2012

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness.  And, tying this to our Theme, I like "I have a philosophy of forgiveness", better than, "Please forgive my philosophy".  (If the latter is true for you, you might want to look for a new philosophy of life).

Weekly Theme: Week of December 16-22, 2012

The Theme for this Week is Philosophy.  Everyone has a philosophy of life.  Some are not aware of this, because they don't think in these terms.  Learn yours and life can get easier.

Saturday, December 15, 2012

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 15, 2012

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity.  The connection of this to our themes (education and teaching) includes controversy, as there are some disagreements on some topics to teach children, such as between Evolution and Intelligent Design.  An exercise would be to study both Wikipedia pages, to see which sounds more authentic to you.

Friday, December 14, 2012

Word for the Day: Friday, December 14, 2012

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation.  And as I write this, there is yet another tragedy to interpret, a school shooting in Newtown, CT, USA.  Events like this are often the hardest to interpret, because they make no sense.

Thursday, December 13, 2012

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 13, 2012

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization.  Continuing with our Themes, schools are social environments.  (In fact, as a kid, I remember the teachers worrying about me, when I stayed away from other students at recess, instead talking to the adult yard monitors).

In general, the best kind of socialization is in person.  (In my opinion, second is phone, because it's still a two-way encounter.  And only then, email or, say, Facebook).

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 12, 2012

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration.  This is, of course, an excellent trait in an educational environment, as it's a route to good grades.  Also, I consider this a relative to the word, "focus", which is a great way to achieve what you desire in life.

Note:  This is an unusual day on the "regular" calendar:  12/12/12!

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 11, 2012

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Acceptability.  In educational situations, as in all situations, acceptability can be a major issue, as different people look for different traits in people around them.  But keeping with our educational theme, some think it's better to be good in sports, whereas others think it's better to be good in, say, science.  Take your pick.  But definitely take your own pick, rather than one that might have been chosen for you by other people.  This is important, because it is you who must live your life.

Monday, December 10, 2012

Word for the Day: Monday, December 10, 2012

The Word for Today (Monday) is Generosity.  I remember a few generous teachers, through my school years.  For example, offering to let me visit between classes, so I can understand a topic I was confused about.  (Not all teachers do that).  Since I hated homework, I would reward teachers I liked better (often because they were generous), by doing the homework for their class.

Sunday, December 9, 2012

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 9, 2012

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Sharing.  To begin with, a rather complex form of sharing with another human being is teaching him/her.  And I certainly remember, when I was in school that, as students, we had plenty of chance to share with the other students, as well as the teacher.  (One form of it was titled, "Show and tell", where we brought something from home, giving us chances to learn more about the home life of our fellow students).

Weekly Themes: Week of December 9-15, 2012

The Themes for this Week are Education and Teaching.  The dictionary certainly ties these words together:  "Education is the theory and practice of teaching".  By the way, one thing I remember from my "Personal Growth Movement" days (1976-1983):  A lot of groups had "trainings".  But head of the group I was in liked to say, "You teach people.  You train animals".

Words for the Day: Saturday, December 8, 2012

The Words for Today (Saturday) are Overview and Perspective.  Another meaning for these words are "executive summary", which is quite important to Retention (our Theme), as it's important to know the overview of the topic at hand, as well as have a perspective on where it fits in with other topics, as well as the world at hand.

Friday, December 7, 2012

Word for the Day: Friday, December 7, 2012

The Word for Today (Friday) is Reflection.  There are multiple aspects to this Word.  1 and 2, respectively, deal with either a conventional mirror, where you can examine yourself in detail, or the "mirror of life", where anyone can "mirror you".  The third aspect fits our Retention theme, where you give careful consideration to the topic you are attempting to retain.  Come to think of it, aspect three might be related to aspect one, since you are examining a topic in detail.

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 6, 2012

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Study.  After yesterday's "absorbing what you learn, as if by a sponge", it's time to hit the books, folks!  :-)

We're talking about gaining wisdom from the experiences of other people, who are "lucky enough to be published".  And Google is your friend!  For example, I was wondering about losing parts of myself through the day, due to unfinished conversations and projects, and remembered a topic from Seth (by author Jane Roberts), "strands of consciousness".  And what do I find in Google?  DNA studies!  Wow!  A whole new field of study for me.  (And the joke was on me:  The above Seth quote even mentions DNA!)

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 5, 2012

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption.  I find the way this relates to Retention (our theme) to be somewhat amusing, as a sponge absorbs water, thus retaining it!  :-)

One note:  Today marks a "Triple Scholar" transit.

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 4, 2012

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review.  Note that review is a highly scalable concept.  If you get an immediate "bad feeling" when you do something, stopping, sitting down (if possible) and reviewing, in your mind, everything around the action can help determine the pluses and minuses of that action.  That's the "low end" of scalable.  The "high end" is what is called, in the Reincarnation literature, "life review", where you look at much of what happened in your entire life, to determine what worked, and where you might improve in your "next life".

Monday, December 3, 2012

Word for the Day: Monday, December 3, 2012

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation.  The way this connects with our theme (Retention) occurs best, when combined with tomorrow's and Thursday's Words:  "After today's experiment comes tomorrow's review and Thursday's study, allowing retention of the reason for doing the experiment in the first place".

Sunday, December 2, 2012

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 2, 2012

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition.  This ties in to our Theme in two ways:  1. Recognize the need to retain what you learn, in order to be a good student.  2. Retain the names of the people you know, in order to make it easier to recognize them.

Weekly Theme: Week of December 2-8, 2012

The Theme for this Week is Retention.  The two definitions are actually related:  Either continued possession (i.e. of material possessions) or continued memory (of topics you have learned).  The second definition is often used in scholarly settings, for example, "A good grade on the final exam depends on effective retention of the class materials we have been providing you".

That said, what do you need to retain, to be a good student of life?

Saturday, December 1, 2012

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 1, 2012

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve.  "I resolve to keep my resolve".  Yes, this sounds like a joke.  (And probably is).  But often, that's all that is needed, like when you need to do something that's necessary in your life, but might be unpopular with, say, members of your family.
