Word for the Day: Sunday, March 31, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Self-Reliance.  Principled self-reliance?  Self-reliant ethics?  My take is what I said in the prior post:  I am in charge of my own Code of Ethics.  (It does take into account moral and secular law, however).

Weekly Themes: Week of 3/31 - 4/062013

The Themes for this Week are Principles and Ethics.  These both provide the foundation for who you are  --  sort of like defining your "moral fiber".  I am firmly in favor of having a "personal code of ethics".  Those who think I shouldn't say things like, "just follow the Bible  --  it 's all you need".  However, different parts of the Bible don't quite correspond with each other.  For example, compare the book of Leviticus and the book of Luke.  Please note that the current "secular laws" are good to keep track of, also.  One reason?  The Monopoly card, "Get Out of Jail Free" doesn't always work in real life.

Word for the Day: Saturday, March 30, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Expansion.  I've said this before, and I'll say it again:  Spiritual expansion is great.  However, expansion "around the middle", due to "overdose of delicious food", now so much, because you then might need to salvage physical self-image.

Words for the Day: Friday, March 29, 2013

The Words for Today (Friday) are Trust and Faith.  In God, I trust.  I also have faith in God.  Other people, a bit more complex.  To bring in our Themes, salvaging trust, if it is violated, is a very complex topic.  For example, earning back that trust is a long, and hard process.  Take a look at our criminal justice system:  It's often not enough to say, "I'm sorry, and promise I won't do it again".

Thursday, March 28, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, March 28, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude.  Let's tie this to our Theme:  If you've "won salvation", or "had your soul salvaged", it absolutely sounds like something to be thankful for!

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, March 27, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality.  Let's see:  Theme?  Salvage equality?  Equal opportunity salvation?

Actually, equal opportunity sounds like a good thing to salvage.  Thanks!

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, March 26, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence.  If you are ever in the position to, say, salvage a ship from a river or lake, please do it prudently.  Your life might depend on it!  :-)

Monday, March 25, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, March 25, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence.  I see a fascinating connection with our Themes:  The defense, in a court case, is an attempt to salvage innocence.  What do you think?

Sunday, March 24, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, March 24, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness.  When coupled with our Themes, one thing that helps is Forgiveness, because that can include salvaging relationships with others, or forgiving yourself, if you've sinned (which helps with salvation).

Weekly Themes: Week of March 24-30, 2013

The Themes for this Week are Salvage and Salvation.  Both of these words include a "root" meaning of rescue.  However, Salvage often is used for objects, such as sunken ships.  But Salvation tends to be used with people in mind, such as Deliverance from harm, which can include self-inflicted harm, caused by sin.

Word for the Day: Saturday, March 23, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity.  This week's had a difficult theme, because lots of people struggle with addictions.  But keep it up, because the more you heal addictive behavior, the more authentic you come across to other people.

Friday, March 22, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, March 22, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation.  How could anybody interpret our Theme, Addiction?  It certainly shows how a behavior and/or a substance can take over a lifetime.  And one way to tie our Word with our Theme is how helpful awareness can be of how your life is going.  Because my own interpretation of addiction is that it turns off awareness.

Thursday, March 21, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, March 21, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization.  This connects with Addiction (our Theme), because support groups, that address addiction often include time for socializing.  Also, people can connect, who can work together to heal the addiction.

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, March 20, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration.  And how does this relate to our Theme (Addiction)?  Well, it seems you "get" what you concentrate on.  Another way to state this:  What do you make a priority in your life?  Because these priorities tend to make up your life.  So look carefully at your priorities.

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, March 19, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Acceptability.  Is addiction acceptable?  Are you comfortable with having a substance (i.e. tobacco or alcohol) or a behavior (i.e. gambling) ruling your life?  If an addiction becomes a priority, other aspects of life (i.e. job and family) can suffer.  Just a word to the wise.

Monday, March 18, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, March 18, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Generosity.  And please note that I do not mean to "be generous with your addictions"!  But if you look at the Word separately, Generosity helps the world go around.  And I absolutely recommend random acts of generosity!

Sunday, March 17, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, March 17, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Sharing.  And the "tie-in" between this and our Theme is problematical, because one might think you're "supposed" to "share your addictions".  My feeling, however, is that it's better to share ways to overcome addictions or, at least, to share your experiences, such that you can work together with others to overcome these "pesky addictions".

Weekly Theme: Week of March 17-23, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Addiction.  When I have any questions about the meaning of a word, my favorite source is Wikipedia, which has a great definition for addiction.  The problem here, is that many lives are ruined by being addicted to alcohol, tobacco, drugs (whether street or prescription), food, or gambling.  (And this list isn't even complete).

Please note that these Themes correspond to Global Jobs, in the Michael Teachings, which brings up a great question about why someone would choose such a "job".  My feeling is that this would be chosen, so that you could teach others how to overcome addictions.

Words for the Day: Saturday, March 16, 2013

The Words for Today (Saturday) are Overview and Perspective.  A good way to simplify reality, or a project you are involved with, is to understand the big picture, via an "Executive Summary".

Friday, March 15, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, March 15, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Reflection.  The simplest meaning of reflection is to ask you to look in a mirror.  What do you see?  Yourself reflected from the other side of that mirror.  Make it more complex and you get, from one side, the book, "Through the Looking Glass", by Lewis Carroll, where you can see that life is quite different on the "other side" of the mirror.  The other side is where we are told we "mirror other people".

Thursday, March 14, 2013

Word for the Day: Thursday, March 14, 2013

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Study.  Why is life so complicated?  Sometimes, it can be because we don't know any better.  "We always do it that way".  A little study can go a long ways, towards making life simpler.

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, March 13, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption.  Simple absorption?  You can do this with a cellulose sponge!  (Note, I will not use any other kind for cleaning, because most other types, sold in stores leave too much water behind).

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, March 12, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review.  And reviews can be simple (did I purchase what I intended, in my last trip to the store?),  or complex (did my life go the way that was intended, when it was planned before birth?)  But either way, they can be important.

Monday, March 11, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, March 11, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation.  (Bringing in our Theme):  Simpler experiments are more likely to be successful, because more complexity means more variables, any of which can go wrong.

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, March 10, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition.  And simplicity is easier to recognize, because you don't have all of the complex pieces to figure out.

Weekly Theme: Week of March 10-16, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Simplification.  As a human being, a common mistake to make is to over-commit, leaving you with little time to just be with yourself.  Some commitments are hard to miss, such as working full time.  But then, some fill their nights and weekends.  But the problem there is to forget some of them, which can damage relationships with other people.

So keep it simple, folks!

Saturday, March 9, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, March 9, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve.  Is it sacrifice our resolve?  Or is it resolve to sacrifice?  Does this get to the level of the chicken and egg issue?  :-)

Friday, March 8, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, March 8, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Courage.  "If not for the courage of the fearless crew, the Minnow would be lost".  -- Gilligan's Island.

Courage is important, and not to be sacrificed.  Often, it is the courage to say "No!"

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Words for the Day: Thursday, March 7, 2013

The Words for Today (Thursday) are Strength and Empowerment.  And it can take both of these to be able to sacrifice effectively.  See, I'm not talking about "forced sacrifice", like ones forced by, say, the government, when it is governing via austerity.  Instead, I'm talking about conscious sacrifice, where choices are made that include sacrificing something like, for example, family contact to get a job promotion.

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

Word for the Day: Wednesday, March 6, 2013

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Competence.  I believe this fits in with sacrifice (our theme) quite well.  For example, it seems that some corporations appear to sacrifice fully competent employees, just for the short-term profits that occur when you cut your payroll costs via layoffs.

Tuesday, March 5, 2013

Word for the Day: Tuesday, March 5, 2013

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Endurance.  And sacrifice can easily require endurance, especially if your life is less comfortable.  But don't forget endurance training, especially yoga.

Monday, March 4, 2013

Word for the Day: Monday, March 4, 2013

The Word for Today (Monday) is Fertility.  A fertile sacrifice?  Sacrificing fertility?  I have trouble with both of those.  But sacrificing what gets in the way of fertility sounds better, especially when I think of a fertile imagination.

Sunday, March 3, 2013

Word for the Day: Sunday, March 3, 2013

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Stability.  In my prior post, I gave some examples of how Sacrifice may show up in life.  And if the sacrifice includes greater or less stability, that can help with the decision process.  It can even depend on how adventurous you feel.

Weekly Theme: Week of March 3-9, 2013

The Theme for this Week is Sacrifice.  Like it or not, life is often about sacrifices.  For example, if low on money, sacrificing entertainment (i.e. movies), so as to eat better.  Also, some life choices are based on sacrifice.  For example, you might be offered a promotion at work, but only if you agree to relocate to another state.  But your family is unwilling to move to the new state.  So whatever you choose includes a sacrifice!

Saturday, March 2, 2013

Word for the Day: Saturday, March 2, 2013

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Release.  If you feel stuck in reality, look around.  There is likely a Release Lever somewhere in sight.  (In fact, it might be close to the Contrast Knob that was mentioned earlier).

Friday, March 1, 2013

Word for the Day: Friday, March 1, 2013

The Word for Today (Friday) is Aspiration.  The best way to approach this Word is to, no matter what field you are in, aspire to be the best you can, even if it's just to be the best human being you can.
