Word for the Day: Saturday, February 28, 2015

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Acknowledgement. I most certainly acknowledge those who help me to live my life effectively. And please note that it takes knowledge to acknowledge.

Word for the Day: Friday, February 27, 2015

The Word for Today (Friday) is Kindness. Regarding our theme, Patronage, I wish to remind the agencies, seeking patronage, to show kindness to those, who support them. Don't take them for granted. (An example there, are political parties, who often keep asking for more, more, and more).

Thursday, February 26, 2015

Word for the Day: Thursday, February 26, 2015

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Encouragement. And patronage (our Theme) is actually a FORM of encouragement, where we keep going to places we like.

Wednesday, February 25, 2015

Word for the Day: Wednesday, February 25, 2015

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Thoughtfulness. There is a related topic, called "Mindfulness", and I found a page, comparing these two words. In effect, my take is to think, before speaking and/or acting. And be thoughtful to places you patronage (or else, in extreme cases, they might stop letting you enter). But this applies to your relationship to everyone. This, by itself, has made my life go smooth.

Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Word for the Day: Tuesday, February 24, 2015

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Support. In a way, the actual definitions of Support and Patronage intersect with each other, as Patronage is a form of support.

Monday, February 23, 2015

Word for the Day: Monday, February 23, 2015

The Word for Today (Monday) is Comfort. I will state, quite emphatically, that I tend to patronize [yes, our Theme] places (i.e. restaurants, bookstores, shopping centers, and public libraries) that take the concept of comfort seriously. In other words, if you want me as a regular customer, invest in, for example, comfortable chairs.

Sunday, February 22, 2015

Word for the Day: Sunday, February 22, 2015

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Nourishment. And yes, be a patron to your favorite restaurants, that provide you nourishing and delicious food and, of course, friendly service.

Weekly Theme: Week of February 22-28, 2015

The Theme for this Week is Patronage.  Our definition, this time, goes to the Learner's Dictionary which, at least didn't use the "patron" [a derivative of the defined work] in the definition itself.  I like the first definition best ("money and support that is given to an artist, organization, etc").  For example, I support a restaurant, that I like a lot, by going to it frequently, and telling others about it.  Also, I might be a Patron of our Public Library, because I support the idea of it, which is to provide books, free of charge, to members of the local community.

Word for the Day: Saturday, February 21, 2015

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Prosperity. So how does this relate to our Themes (Principles and Ethics)? If you gain your prosperity, through ethical channels, I have NO issues with you at all, regardless of how wealthy you are. But getting wealthy through lying and cheating? I'm not so happy about that, and don't think others are, either.

Friday, February 20, 2015

Word for the Day: Friday, February 20, 2015

The Word for Today (Friday) is Liberation. And no, I don't suggest "liberation from principles and/or ethics". However, I might suggest that a good set of principles, including a good personal Code of Ethics, could help liberate one from difficult circumstances.

Thursday, February 19, 2015

Word for the Day: Thursday, February 19, 2015

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Wisdom. So, if we are going to have "Sets of Principles", as well as "Codes of Ethics", it's best to wise about them.

Wednesday, February 18, 2015

Word for the Day: Wednesday, February 18, 2015

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Impartiality. Before I get to our Themes, I'd like to propose that Impartiality is hard to find, yet something to seek out. So how do you have Impartial Ethics? In my opinion, I seek to be true to myself, a proponent of the truth, and helpful to others, without being very partial to specific, partisan ideas. (And I agree that even THIS isn't easy).

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

Word for the Day: Tuesday, February 17, 2015

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Consequence. And yes, any set of Principles, as well as any Code of Ethics would CERTAINLY include consequences. However, sometimes the worst consequence of all comes to those, who don't take the time to ponder, on these topics. For example, some take on a mishmash combination of civil law, and what they've heard was in their chosen Holy Book (whether, say, the bible or Quran).

Monday, February 16, 2015

Word for the Day: Monday, February 16, 2015

The Word for Today (Monday) is Elimination. And, of course, I [and probably most others], am not suggesting eliminating our Principles, or our Codes of Ethics (though the political concept of "deregulation" seems, at least, to go down that lane...) Instead, I would think we would need to eliminate, what gets in the way of a consistent, and workable set of principles and ethics.

Sunday, February 15, 2015

Word for the Day: Sunday, February 15, 2015

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Self-Reliance. And, if you DO maintain your own set of Principles, as well as your own Code of Ethics, that's a great step TOWARDS self-reliance.

Weekly Themes: Week of February 15-21, 2015

The Themes for this Week are Principles and Ethics.  The way I define Principle is like a "personal truth", or a "code".  So, to put them together, I'd say I have my own Code of Ethics.  And some people, that I shared this with, suggested, "You're not qualified to do it yourself.  You're supposed to use [some sort of combination of country law, and things in, say, the Bible] instead".  The problem, is that, even if you do use something from outside yourself, you still have the responsibility, in case something doesn't work out correctly.  For example, some laws conflict with each other, such as, on the one hand, laws against Perjury (or lying), yet on the other hand, there are laws against giving away secrets, which might include state secrets, and/or confidential information from a client.

Saturday, February 14, 2015

Word for the Day: Saturday, February 14, 2015

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Expansion. The two words that make up our Theme work differently with this one. On the one hand, Expansive Salvation sounds pretty good. However, people often work to Salvage their appearance, if they've made a practice of too much Expansion, around the middle, due to too much delicious food.

Words for the Day: Friday, February 13, 2015

The Words for Today (Friday) are Trust and Faith, both of which are important, in cases of personal salvation. For example, have trust in the Universe, and faith in the higher power of your choice, going from All That Is, creator of the Universe, down to your personal "whole self" (also called "higher self", and often your Guardian Angel [or Guardian Angels]). However, be careful of "normal, everyday people", because Trust must be earned, and Faith must not be blind.

Thursday, February 12, 2015

Word for the Day: Thursday, February 12, 2015

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude. I find Gratitude a huge step towards Salvation (no matter what you think that means), as well as what I feel AFTER my own examples of Salvation. Thank you, everyone!

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

Word for the Day: Wednesday, February 11, 2015

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality. And combining this with our Theme brings up a question: How, indeed, can we salvage equal opportunity out of the mess we appear to be in, based on the news I see on TV? Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

Word for the Day: Tuesday, February 10, 2015

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence. Essentially, this means to exercise good judgment, in practical affairs. And to bring in our Themes, I believe the opposite of Prudence might stand in the way of personal salvation.

Monday, February 9, 2015

Word for the Day: Monday, February 9, 2015

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence. To touch on, at least a part of our Themes, the entire idea of criminal trials, include people attempting to salvage Innocence, from the risk of punishment, that would result in being found guilty.

Sunday, February 8, 2015

Word for the Day: Sunday, February 8, 2015

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness. Hopefully, you won't need to ask forgiveness for the ACT of, say, Salvation. But actions and behaviors, that lead to the NEED for Salvation? That's where Forgiveness can come in.

Weekly Themes: Week of February 8-14, 2015

The Themes for this Week are Salvage and Salvation.  Let's take these separately (and getting help from Google's "define _____" service):  Salvage is often used, in the context of a shipwreck, or a plane wreck.  For example, "We salvaged the Boeing 747, from last years accident, to learn how to avoid future wrecks of this sort".  However, Salvation is often used, in the context of religion and/or spirituality.  For example, deliverance from Sin and its consequence.

Saturday, February 7, 2015

Word for the Day: Saturday, February 7, 2015

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity. So am I reading this correctly? "If I have to have an addiction, make it an authentic one"? So be it. But let's also make the work we do, to heal the addiction and become whole again, also authentic.

Friday, February 6, 2015

Word for the Day: Friday, February 6, 2015

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation. So what's the best way to interpret Addiction? Hopefully, in a manner that can heal it. Remember that awareness of an issue, is part of the road to solving it.

Thursday, February 5, 2015

Word for the Day: Thursday, February 5, 2015

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization. The funny thing? Some addictions use Socialization, to propagate themselves. For example, the relationship, between saloons and bars, to Alcoholism. Just say no.

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

Word for the Day: Wednesday, February 4, 2015

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration. And, once again, in my opinion, it's not concentration on fulfilling your addictions that helps, but concentration on healing your addictions. It's a matter of focus -- on what's important in your life.

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

Word for the Day: Tuesday, February 3, 2015

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Acceptability. "Acceptable Addiction"? "Acceptable level of Addiction"? For example, one thing I've commented on, before is that some things can look like addiction, such as addiction to water and air. But one that does show up, is addiction to food. We all DO "seem to" need food to survive, but there are some who go about food, in an obsessive and compulsive manner. That is addiction.

Monday, February 2, 2015

Word for the Day: Monday, February 2, 2015

The Word for Today (Monday) is Generosity. This doesn't mean to "be generous" with the "props" of your addiction, but instead, be generous with the insight, that can help others to heal any addictions they may have.

Sunday, February 1, 2015

Word for the Day: Sunday, February 1, 2015

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Sharing. I firmly believe you shouldn't "share your addiction" but, instead, share insights, in how to overcome, or at least mitigate addictions.

Weekly Theme: Week of February 1-7, 2015

The Theme for this Week is Addiction.  My favorite definition of this Theme goes to dictionary.reference.com, which begins, "the state of being enslaved to a habit...".  Because addictions can certainly feel like slavery.  This will be a good week, to practice your will power (or "won't power"), so as to avoid beginning, or maintaining addictions.
