Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 30, 2015

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption. This word is related to our Theme, Retention, especially in the non-academic definitions. For example, you can absorb water into your body, from the foods you eat (as well as liquids you drink), and then "retain it" (often with less than pleasant results). But getting back to learning, Absorption works well with languages, as it's how a child learns. (It's called the "Immersion technique" as, after any introductions, the only language spoken in the class is normally the one being learned).

Word for the Day: Tuesday, September 29, 2015

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review. First off, if you are in a position to review something you already did, you already retained some memory of it. So whatever you did so far (experimentation?) was good. But the review process itself helps as, for example, you compare what you recall of the Lab work, to what's in the textbook. (Hopefully, they match, or at least come close).

Word for the Day: Monday, September 28, 2015

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation. So how does this couple with Retention (our Theme)? I finished High School, and started College, with a Chemistry Major. (But then, got so interested in computers, that I dropped Chemistry. But that's another story). I liked High School chemistry much better than College [Inorganic] Chemistry because, in High School, we did our own experiments most of the time (and only occasionally, would the teacher "demonstrate"). This switched in College, where there were only a few actual "student run experiments". My observation is that I retained what I learned MUCH better in High School, when I was the one "manipulating the glassware".

Word for the Day: Sunday, September 27, 2015

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition. So, if you recognize something or someone, would you retain that recognition? :-)

Now, in general, I would sincerely hope that I recognize all of the people who helped me to become who I am now.

Weekly Theme: Week of 09/27 to 10/03/2015

The Theme for this Week is Retention.  Google gives three definitions, each related to each other:  1). After obtaining a possession, to "retain" control over it.  2). When hearing a lecture or reading a book, to "retain" the knowledge you just read or heard.  3). After the soil (or a human body) gains moisture, the act of "retaining" it, over a period of time.

So which of these meanings would be most important to the Theme for this week?  I'd grant a modified version of #2, where what we pick up in life remains with us, whether it comes from (preferably) life experience or (as a "supplement"), book reading and/or attendance of seminars.

Saturday, September 26, 2015

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 26, 2015

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve. I tie this to our Theme, with some humor: "I resolve to preserve my resolve". :-)

Note, please, that Resolutions can be made, at times other than New Years.

Friday, September 25, 2015

Word for the Day: Friday, September 24, 2015

The Word for Today (Friday) is Courage. So is this "Preserving Courage", or "the Courage to Preserve"? Sometimes, it's hard to tell which one works together better. But I'll take the second, to say that, often it TAKES courage to preserve something from the past, especially if it's controversial. For example, did you notice how quickly something "widely popular" [or, at least THOUGH of as popular] could become SO unpopular, that public examples were taken down. (I'm talk about the Confederate Battle Flag, of course).

Words for the Day: Thursday, September 24, 2015

The Words for Today (Thursday) are Strength and Empowerment. So how do we preserve [our Theme] these? I must sound like a broken record, as I keep suggesting Yoga and Meditation (especially for personal Empowerment). But don't only follow me. Others like weights, for strength training, and human potential training, to learn to be empowered.

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 23, 2015

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Competence. So how do you "preserve competence"? Actually, it's almost paradoxical, as people often find they feel the need to "go back to school", just to stay current, especially in the technical fields, such as Computer Engineering. So to remain competent appears to require continued growth? Kind of seems so, these days.

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

Word for the Day: Tuesday, September 22, 2015

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Endurance. So how do you "endure your preservation"? (Oh dear, some of these combinations sound just a bit silly).

How do we preserve our endurance? I guess you start by developing it. Some people spend time at athletic, or fitness clubs for that. I'd also suggest yoga.

Monday, September 21, 2015

Word for the Day: Monday, September 21, 2015

The Word for Today (Monday) is Fertility. And, guess what? "Being fertile" actually can contribute to the Preservation of Humanity. (Of course, probably not now, with our overpopulation situation, but you get the idea).

Please note that there is more than one connotation to Fertility. For example, I'm quite partial to having a Fertile Imagination.

Sunday, September 20, 2015

Word for the Day: Sunday, September 20, 2015

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Stability. And what better environment, to preserve something, but a stable one?

Weekly Theme: Week of September 20-26, 2015

The Theme for this Week is Preservation.  We're not talking about creation here, but maintaining something that is already present.  For example, preserving an antiquated book might be as simple as keeping it in an atmosphere other than Oxygen (for example, nitrogen).  Museums are places, highly known for preserving items of value.

Saturday, September 19, 2015

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 19, 2015

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Release. So would this be "Release of Analysis", or "Analyzing the concept of Release"? I'll take the second, please. :-)

So what is "Release" anyway? The opposite of being "Stuck"? (Yes, there are unrelated meanings like, "what Software Release are we on, anyway?") But if you do feel stuck (and who hasn't, at times?), look around your "situation", to see if there's a "Release Lever" hidden somewhere, for you use. And it might be somewhere you hadn't even thought of.

Friday, September 18, 2015

Word for the Day: Friday, September 18, 2015

The Word for Today (Friday) is Aspiration. So, to bring in the theme: "I aspire to be the best analyst, possible of my life, and my way forward. In addition, I aspire to be at my best, when I am helping another person analyze, as an example, their life choices". Not only am I comfortable making a pledge like this, but believe I have been successfully doing much of this, all along. Thank you.

Thursday, September 17, 2015

Word for the Day: Thursday, September 17, 2015

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Contrast. "Analyzing Contrast"? OK. I'll bite: My "analysis" of Contrast, is that too little, in a life, can be boring, yet too much can be scary. (And yes, I've said this before but, in my opinion, I think it's worth repeating).

In the other direction, I find "Contrasting Analysis" to be a bit harder to parse. Comments are welcome.

Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 16, 2015

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Adaptability. It takes a Flexible [synonym of Adaptable] person to analyze things well, as an inflexible opinion will get in the way, because the person's often trying to force the topic to match their opinion.

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Words for the Day: Tuesday, September 15, 2015

The Words for Today (Tuesday) are Agility and Grace. Let's see? Am I to do an "agile analysis" of my Gracefulness (or lack, thereof -- at least physically)? Some of these Themes and Words are easier to tie together than others. But I will say, that if you wish to develop Agility and/or Grace, I suggest Yoga.

Monday, September 14, 2015

Word for the Day: Monday, September 14, 2015

The Word for Today (Monday) is Acceleration. A careful "Analysis" of this shows it appearing in many places. For example, I really like accelerated learning (which develops the Intellect). I also love spiritual acceleration, which is a way I have lived my life. However, careful analysis shows that physical acceleration, like for example, in a motor vehicle, needs to be undertaken in a careful manner, to avoid unfortunate encounters with Law Enforcement.  :-)

Words for the Day: Sunday, September 13, 2015

The Words for Today (Sunday) are Patience and Tolerance. So, if I read this combination correctly, I'm to conduct Patient Analysis, and Tolerate the results. (I love it!)

Weekly Theme: Week of September 13-19, 2015

The Theme for this Week is Analysis.  According to "define analysis" on Google, the top meaning is, "detailed examination of the elements or structure of something, typically as a basis for discussion or interpretation".  There's even an alternative meaning, "the process of separating something into its constituent elements".  (Hopefully, the second meaning isn't generally used, when analyzing a person.  LOL!)

As a Scholar of Life (as well as fitting into the Michael Teachings Role of Scholar), this looks like it will be a fun week for me.

Saturday, September 12, 2015

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 12, 2015

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Acknowledgement. Archive your acknowledgements? Or Acknowledge your Archives? I'll take the second, as I just love public libraries, and acknowledge the research projects I've been able to conduct in them. For example, when I lived in San Francisco, I studied the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, using the Microfilm of the actual newspapers of the times. The news, other than the earthquake news provided a lot of the fun, as people lived quite differently then.

Friday, September 11, 2015

Word for the Day: Friday, September 11, 2015

The Word for Today (Friday) is Kindness. Archiving your Kindness? Absolutely! If you keep a Journal, notice, not only when you NEUTRALLY perform a kind act (meaning without EXPECTING something in return), but also what sort of response you get (again, neutrally, as if you're performing a "homework assignment" for a Cultural Anthropology class).

The other side also works: Kindness to Archives. Yes, be kind to your local Public Library, even to, if you can afford it, contributing to is.

Thursday, September 10, 2015

Word for the Day: Thursday, September 10, 2015

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Encouragement. So is it Archiving your Encouragement? Or Encouraging your Archives? I'll take the second, of course, as Public Libraries are great contributions to almost any place they are located. The encouragement goes both ways, of course, as the Archives encourage people to read books.

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 9, 2015

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Thoughtfulness. And yes, be thoughtful, when inside of your local Archives (aka local Public Library). Yes, sitting and reading a book doesn't mix well with loud cell phone calls, just to name one glaring example. This Word goes well with yesterday's one, because it's quite thoughtful to show your support for these kind of places.

Tuesday, September 8, 2015

Word for the Day: Tuesday, September 8, 2015

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Support. I'm not sure what I could do with a combination, such as "Archiving Support", but I have no trouble with combining this, in the other direction. Indeed, I fully recommend that people "Support their local Archives". Indeed, no matter where I have lived, I've enjoyed visiting the Public Library for that particular town or city.

Monday, September 7, 2015

Word for the Day: Monday, September 7, 2015

The Word for Today (Monday) is Comfort. And the Public Library is often the public spot, with the most comfortable seating. Just one more reason for you to support your local Archives.

Sunday, September 6, 2015

Word for the Day: Sunday, September 6, 2015

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Nourishment. And if you are a termite, this could be literal, because books can be tasty. To people, however, the nourishment, more intellectual in nature, are the words IN the books.

Weekly Theme: Week of September 6-12, 2015

The Theme for this Week is Archive.  Think Public Library.  When I was growing up, I lived several of my years in Marin County, north of San Francisco, California.  One of my favorite hangout spots was the San Francisco Public Library.  Before the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, the stocks of the San Francisco library was open to the public, allowing me to study Classical Music, by examining the Blueprints of the pieces themselves, also known as the Full Orchestra Scores.

Besides providing services to the public, Archives are ways of preserving the past.  In the Michael teachings, as well as in Eastern Religions, the Akashic Records is a non-physical way of preserving our lives, so we can understand them, after we die.

Saturday, September 5, 2015

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 5, 2015

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Prosperity. Strategy of Prosperity? (Think "Buy low and sell high"). Prosperity of Strategy? (Think fund-raising). One thing I've said before: Prosperity can be about more than simply money. Like, for just one good example, a prosperous imagination (that might make you "money", through a best selling book).

Friday, September 4, 2015

Word for the Day: Friday, September 4, 2015

The Word for Today (Friday) is Liberation. To create a strategy of liberation could take a book, and has! Many of them!  Good luck.

Thursday, September 3, 2015

Word for the Day: Thursday, September 3, 2015

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Wisdom. Strategy of Wisdom? In my opinion, wisdom comes, more from life experience, than from book reading, though the "right books" can help a lot. So, a strategy of picking your college major "wisely" is a good start.

Now, the other side, a "wise strategy" sounds pretty obvious, though I see people who act, as if they don't know what the word "strategy" means.

Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 2, 2015

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Impartiality. An impartial Strategy? A strategy of Impartiality? In the latter case, news organizations would would want people to THINK they are impartial. (Does anyone, reading this think they've found ANY, truly impartial news organizations?)

Note that, on the other side, an "impartial strategy" might be to "allow anything". Not sure about that because, in my opinion, that sounds like a flawed strategy, because "anything" might include total destruction!

Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Word for the Day: Tuesday, September 1, 2015

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Consequence. Now I won't even pretend that any Strategy is likely to have it's list of consequences. But think about it: Wouldn't a LACK of strategy ALSO have likely consequences? (That's like saying, "I don't like any of these choices today. So I'll just stay in bed, and sleep the day away". Guess what? That's NOT going to be your best day: I've tried that, and it JUST doesn't work!)
