Word for the Day: Thursday, September 30, 2010

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Contrast.

This goes quite well with our themes (Composition / Imagination), as compositions are much more interesting if they have contrast in them. Also, if you are ready for the contrasts in life, you probably have an agile imagination, ready to shift whenever needed.

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 29, 2010

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Adaptability.

First off, I consider Flexibility to be, if not a synonym, at least a prerequisite to true adaptability, as flexible people adapt to their surroundings, whereas an inflexible person often asks their surroundings to adapt to him/herself.

Now, let's look at our Themes (Composition and Imagination): A flexible imagination really helps adaptability, as it's possible to get answers to unusual situations really quick.

Words for the Day: Tuesday, September 28, 2010

The Words for Today (Tuesday) are Agility and Grace.

These have to do with flexibility. And imagination is nothing if not flexible.

Once again, I suggest yoga as a good way to develop these two attributes.

Monday, September 27, 2010

Word for the Day: Monday, September 27, 2010

The Word for Today (Monday) is Acceleration.

I see an interesting connection with our themes (Composition and Imagination): First, for example, a possible ability to accelerate that Composition you need to turn in at school. But one I like better is an acceleration in imagination, which can be very helpful.

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Words for the Day: Sunday, September 26, 2010

The Words for Today (Sunday) are Patience and Tolerance.

At least one of these (Patience) can help one of the themes (Imagination) flow.

Weekly Themes: Week of 9/26 to 10/02/2010

The Themes for this Week are Composition and Imagination.

The funny thing is that my memory of the Compositions I was supposed to write in school tended to suppress my Imagination.

These themes are the trait of the fiction writer.

Saturday, September 25, 2010

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 25, 2010

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Acknowledgment.

Connecting this to Balance (theme) is easy: Acknowledge those who help you to be in balance.

It is also amazing how well these last three words can also connect to each other. For example: "I acknowledge those who encourage kindness".

Friday, September 24, 2010

Word for the Day: Friday, September 24, 2010

The Word for Today (Friday) is Kindness.

This helps to balance [theme] your life faster than anything else. Also, if enough people practice kindness, there is no room for war.

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Word for the Day: Thursday, September 23, 2010

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Encouragement.

This ties in with Balance (our Theme) very well, as balanced people encourage other people to also be in balance. Unfortunately, it can also work the other way with (for example) alcoholics encouraging others to also drink too much. Be careful!

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 22, 2010

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Thoughtfulness.

Going back to Balance (our Theme), how thoughtful you are defines how balanced you will be. For example, thoughtless actions can lose friends.

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Word for the Day: Tuesday, September 21, 2010

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Support.

It is amazing how much finding your support is important to getting your life into balance.

Monday, September 20, 2010

The Word for Today (Monday) is Comfort.

And guess what? Those who live a balanced [theme] life, have a better than average chance of being comfortable.

Sunday, September 19, 2010

Word for the Day: Sunday, September 19, 2010

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Nourishment.

The connection with our Theme (Balance) is easy to see, due to the benefits of a balanced diet. Eat well.

Weekly Theme: Week of September 19 - 25, 2010

The Theme for this Week is Balance.

This is good individually (a balanced life), and globally (where countries often get in trouble when their politics go too far out of balance).

Please note that today begins a new seven-week Michael Month, with Artisan traits.

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 18, 2010

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Prosperity.

This connects with our theme (Conservation) quite well, as it saves money to conserve on resources, helping with your prosperity. For example, leave your car at home, taking Public Transit, and save on Gasoline bills.

Friday, September 17, 2010

Word for the Day: Friday, September 17, 2010

The Word for Today (Friday) is Liberation.

This appears to tie well with Conservation (our theme): If enough of our population learns how to leave their cars at home, using Public Transit instead, we can liberate ourselves from dependence on foreign oil. See how easy this can be?

Earth Day, Every Day!

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Word for the Day: Thursday, September 16, 2010

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Wisdom.

This ties well with Conservation (our theme), as it is wise to conserve! And a little wisdom goes a long ways in ways to conserve effectively and creatively.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 15, 2010

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Impartiality.

To tie this to our Theme, why not Conserve Impartially? Doesn't it make sense? Conserve water (flush responsibly), electricity (turn lights off when not in a room), and foreign oil (learn to use Public Transit when possible, leaving the car at home much of the time).

Performing acts like this will help to make every day Earth Day.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Word for the Day: Tuesday, September 14, 2010

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Consequence.

I still like the idea of the old Game Show, Truth or Consequences. Do people remember seeing that? (Older people on TV, younger people, possibly through YouTube or Fancast).

Remember the law of Karma. If you overlook it (especially by hurting other people, whether physically or otherwise), it will come back to haunt you.

Monday, September 13, 2010

Word for the Day: Monday, September 13, 2010

The Word for Today (Monday) is Elimination.

This word goes well with our Theme (Conservation), as a fantastic way to conserve is to eliminate wasteful habits, including, for example, things like blowing your nose, throwing the tissue into the toilet bowl, and flushing the toilet. (How many gallons of water does it take to flush that toilet?)

Sunday, September 12, 2010

Word for the Day: Sunday, September 12, 2010

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Self-Reliance.

Tying this to our Theme, Conservation is definitely something that an individual can do without help.

Let's make every day Earth Day.

Weekly Theme: Week of September 12 - 18, 2010

The Theme for this Week is Conservation.

First off, it's amazing how much a little of this goes a long way. For example, conservation would be a great way to cut down on our country's use of foreign oil.

Saturday, September 11, 2010

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 11, 2010

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Expansion.

There are several theories about what our Universe is doing. Is it expanding? Shrinking? Or (as I suspect) is it cyclical, sometimes expanding and sometimes shrinking, sort of like breathing in and out?

Expand carefully, folks.

Friday, September 10, 2010

Words for the Day: Friday, September 10, 2010

There are Two Words for Today (Friday): Trust and Faith.

In my opinion, both of these words should be treated like business investments, with long-term consequences. Like I've said before, trust must be earned, and can be taken away as fast as it was given. In addition, faith needs eyes: shouldn't be blind.

Thursday, September 9, 2010

Word for the Day: Thursday, September 9, 2010

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude.

This is, of course, one of the greatest of the large emotions.

Find somebody to thank today.

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 8, 2010

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality.

How can we all be unique beings, and yet be equal? Good question! However, one good start is to give people equal opportunities. That can help them find their own uniqueness.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

word for the Day: Tuesday, September 7, 2010

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence.

I've often wondered about the relationship between Prudence (discretion in practical affairs) and being a Prude (which includes obsession, and is often associated with sexual topics). My feeling is that a person who is defined as prudish can sometimes be the only one in a group that IS being practical.

Be discrete. But not obsessive. And have fun.

Monday, September 6, 2010

Word for the Day: Monday, September 6, 2010

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence.

This is definitely a multidimensional word. Innocence of little kids? Presumed innocent, until proven guilty? Innocent complex? (Actually, not so much the last one: A much more common emotional disorder is a "Guilty complex").

Better innocent than guilty.

Sunday, September 5, 2010

Word for the Day: Sunday, September 5, 2010

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness.

This is definitely a misunderstood word, as a lot of people think it means forget. I disagree, and think it's more like, "I remember what you did, but am still willing to be your friend". Comments? (English, please!)

Weekly Theme: Week of September 5 - 11, 2010

The Theme for this Week is Welcome.

And I indeed welcome all the newcomers to this BLOG. Read the introduction and early posts to see how this began.

Saturday, September 4, 2010

Word for the Day: Saturday, September 4, 2010

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity.

Returning to our Theme (Partnership), members of partnerships need to be authentic, or the partnership is likely to fall apart. And remember that a marriage is a form of partnership.

Friday, September 3, 2010

Word for the Day: Friday, September 3, 2010

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation.

This is a fantastic service to provide, definitely helpful to Partnerships (the weekly theme).

To those still in school: Learn more than one language. It will take you far.

Thursday, September 2, 2010

Word for the Day: Thursday, September 2, 2010

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization.

I believe it is widely agreed that humans are social animals. But what does that mean, in today's information-based economy? For example, can one hold a Cocktail Party inside of a Google BLOG? (How do the drinks taste, for one?)

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Word for the Day: Wednesday, September 1, 2010

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration.

This is certainly a word with multiple meanings, only one of which is intense mental activity. I remember a TV Game Show with this name, a memory test, where you remember the location of a clue so that you can go back to it when you see the same clue elsewhere in the puzzle. (Note: I found this quite difficult).
