Word for the Day: Saturday, December 31, 2016

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Expansion. How this fits in with Salvation depends on what is being "expanded". If we are talking about Spiritual Expansion, everything fits well. But if we are discussing "expansion, around the middle of the body, due to delicious food", things get a bit more complex. Be careful, folks!

Word for the Day: Friday, December 30, 2016

The Words for Today (Friday) are Trust and Faith. Trusting that our lives are "salvageable", may be an "early stepping stone", on the path to "Personal Salvation". And I have Faith in this process.

Thursday, December 29, 2016

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 29, 2016

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude. And I have extreme gratitude for all experiences, of Salvation in this lifetime. In addition, I am grateful, for all the friends I have picked up along the way, whether Facebook Friends, people I know in person, or both. I am eternally Grateful. Thanks!

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 28, 2016

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality. There are two Connotations for this Word. In my opinion, one works well, but the other, not so much. So when we have Equal Opportunity, anybody can make it in the world, if they work at it, and opportunities present themselves. But the "flip side" of Equality, which I like to call "Forced Conformity", is simply a way to control other people. At its best, those who "follow the rules" might survive, at least for a while. At its worst, everybody loses.

Tuesday, December 27, 2016

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 27, 2016

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence. Prudent Salvation? Sounds good to me! Now, remember that Prudence is, simply being "wise, in practical affairs". And remember, you can do this, without going overboard, and perhaps being labeled as a "prude".

Monday, December 26, 2016

Word for the Day: Monday, December 26, 2016

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence. Salvaging the Innocent? (or) The Innocence of Salvation? So where does Guilt come in? Because those are the people, needing salvation. And, finally, my favorite? The Innocence of children.

Sunday, December 25, 2016

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 25, 2016

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness. Let's see: "Forgive the way I salvaged myself"? "Salvation through Forgiveness"? Now I have heard the second one used before, though not too frequently. There are, of course religious connotations, including in the Christmas Story, as told in the New Testament of the Judeo Christian Bible.

Weekly Themes: Week of December 25-31, 2016

The Themes for this Week are Salvage and Salvation.  These are, of course related words, but I was interested in finding the differences.  According to Wikdiff, Salvage is about "things", such as salvaging a boat, after it sinks.  But Salvation is more "personal", such as being "saved from Hell".  However, I have heard "salvage" used with people also, such as salvaging an actor's career from obscurity, by getting a part in a popular movie.  Now let's see how this works, with all the Words for this Week!

Saturday, December 24, 2016

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 24, 2016

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity. So what do we have for today? An "Authentic Addiction? (As opposed to a "Counterfeit Addiction"?)

One thing that bothers me, is why these Human Bodies don't come with Certificates of Authenticity (like those "Limited Edition Plates" do?) But one thing, you are always free to do, is to be Authentic to Yourself. And I wish you all the best, in these Holiday Seasons!

Friday, December 23, 2016

Word for the Day: Friday, December 23, 2016

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation. So, are we Addicted to Interpreters? Or are we doing our best to Interpret what Addiction means, in this world? Personally, I vote for the second! In general, I recommend Interpreter, as a Career Path. Depending on the details, it can come with travel, and the ability to get to know people all over the world.

Thursday, December 22, 2016

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 22, 2016

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization. And yes, Addictive Behavior is often found, in social environments. For example, Cocktail Lounges (aka Bars) exist, mainly for people to drink alcoholic beverages together. Some, who attend these types of places use moderation, bot others are addicted. Unless they (the "addicted ones") behave badly, it may be hard to tell the difference.

Wednesday, December 21, 2016

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 21, 2016

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration. Once again, we're not suggesting that people "concentrate on Addiction". That said, concentration on solutions to Addiction is a different thing. So once again, good luck!

Tuesday, December 20, 2016

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 20, 2016

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Acceptability. Acceptable Addiction? (Is there such a thing?) Okay, I know we all "might" be "addicted to water", because if we stop drinking it, "cold turkey", we "will likely" develop strong symptoms, and may *Die*! But seriously, the way towards Acceptability is to develop, and maintain a balanced life. And good luck!

Monday, December 19, 2016

Word for the Day: Monday, December 19, 2016

The Word for Today (Monday) is Generosity. I know what this Word/Theme combination *looks* like, but I think I'd prefer being generous with ways to bring an Addictive life into balance. For example, there could be underlying issues, that could "inspire" addictive behavior. Also, temptation and "peer pressure" can certainly play a role. But a business tool, called a "Cost Benefit Analysis" can easily show why the Addictive behavior, or substance may not be a good idea at all. Be careful.

Sunday, December 18, 2016

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 18, 2016

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Sharing. And no, I don't believe this means that we "should" share our Addictions! But sharing what we do, to bring them under control can be quite beneficial, under certain circumstances.

Weekly Theme: Week of December 18-24, 2016

The Theme for this Week is Addiction.  When looking for a good definition, I first went to Google, only to find a derivative of the word itself (addicted), in the attempt to define it.  Oh well.  At least, Wikipedia has a good page on Addiction, from which I get that it is, "compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli", either from a substance, a behavior, or both.  Addictions can be psychological or physical.  For example, if addicted to Heroin, a person can get seriously ill, with violent symptoms, if he/she stops taking it.  Good luck!

Saturday, December 17, 2016

Words for the Day: Saturday, December 17, 2016

The Words for Today (Saturday) are Overview and Perspective. These, quite "Simply" [referring to our Theme], define the "big picture" view of whatever you're examining. In my opinion, it is important for anybody, who is either working for a company, or taking a class, to know the big picture of the topic, or job at hand. My personal experiences, in both situations, strongly suggest that not everybody shares my view!

Friday, December 16, 2016

Word for the Day: Friday, December 16, 2016

The Word for Today (Friday) is Reflection. A Simple Reflection? Or how about Reflecting on the topic of Simplicity? Though Reflection is a good topic of its own. Like do you know that anybody around you are capable of being a mirror to you? In other words, if the behavior of someone around you angers you, it might be worth while to look closely within yourself, to see if you exhibit that same behavior. And good luck!

Thursday, December 15, 2016

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 15, 2016

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Study. A study of Simplification? Simple Study? Well, it *is* simpler, if you major in the topic you have most been interested in, when you were a kid! (In my case, I was interested in Insects. So, in my Sophomore Year of High School, I (through my parents) asked for a particular Biology Teacher, who specialized (in his "spare time") in Entomology. It Worked!!! (And I got All "A's" in his class!) In general, it's best to devote your time, studying topics you are interested in. Simple?

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 14, 2016

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption. In one way, this is the easiest way to learn. For example, I've heard good reviews of the "Immersion Method" of teaching other languages. This is where you learn, just by being with people, speaking the language. I saw a movie yesterday, Arrival, where this was exactly the way they were able to figure out the language of the race, who came to Earth. Highly recommended, by the way.

Tuesday, December 13, 2016

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 13, 2016

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review. A Review of Simplification? A Simple Review? In the second case, it's a reminder that Reviews don't need to be a big task: For example, you could do a simple review of your shopping list, to see if you missed anything, before leaving the store. That does not mean that *all* reviews are simple, as reviewing college course material say, before an examination can be a large task.

Monday, December 12, 2016

Word for the Day: Monday, December 12, 2016

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation. Experiments in Simplification? Or Simple Experiments? Both exist, of course. In my opinion, experimentation is an important part of living, because living "by rote" could get quite boring. Just watch out for dangerous, as well as unnecessary risks!

Sunday, December 11, 2016

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 11, 2016

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition, Recognition of Simplification? Simple Recognition? Or just to Simply Recognize? Lots of combinations here. But recognizing ways to simplify my life has personally helped me because, for multiple years, I was overbooked, to the point where I not only had no time to have fun, but almost no time to even think. Good luck, folks!

Weekly Theme: Week of December 11-17-2016

The Theme for this Week is Simplification.  When I asked Google what this means, I got a surprise:  I was reminded of its use, in higher mathematics.  For example, "simplification of a fraction to an irreducible fraction".  But in general, Simplify means to "make easier", though I will comment that "simple" does not always equate to "easy".  For example, knowing that clearing up your financial situation is as "simple" as getting out of debt, doesn't necessarily make it easy to do so.  But one act I can personally recommend, is to "simplify your life" by, for example, removing "unnecessary" events from your schedule.

Saturday, December 10, 2016

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 10, 2016

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve. I had to think, about how to use our Word and Theme together in a sentence, and figured out a way, to use both the Noun and Verb version of Resolve, with Sacrifice: "I Resolve to not Sacrifice my Resolve". :-)

One thing to keep in mind, especially since we approach the end of a year: Resolutions can be made anytime, not just at the New Year. But consider that it's more important to make a few of them, and keep them, than to make a lot of them, and break the majority of them.

Friday, December 9, 2016

Word for the Day: Friday, December 9, 2016

The Word for Today (Friday) is Courage. I think we widely agree that it's not a good idea to "Sacrifice our Courage". But this works well in the other direction, because it takes courage, to know when sacrifice is appropriate, especially if other people might disagree with you. And one thing to watch out for: There is a "negative pole" word, sometimes equated to courage: Foolhardiness. It is good to know the difference!

Thursday, December 8, 2016

Words for the Day: Thursday, December 8, 2016

The Words for Today (Thursday) are Strength and Empowerment. Once again, I don't like the combination with Theme in one direction: "Sacrificing our Strength and Empowerment" is something I hear about, with one side of a Relationship (either romantic or, say, employment related), where that person completely capitulates to the other side, whether a spouse, or his/her boss at work.

The way I think the combination works, is if we have the Strength and Empowerment, to conduct ourselves, in a condition, where we DO need to sacrifice something (i.e. money, time, or letting a valued relationship go). The strength allows us to recover easier.

Wednesday, December 7, 2016

Word for the Day: Wednesday, December 7, 2016

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Competence. Sacrificing Competence? (For what??!!) Or how about "the Competence to Sacrifice effectively, including knowing when it is appropriate to do so"? I've mentioned this before, but a reminder that there is a great book, on the topic of Competence, called "The Peter Principle", by Lawrence J. Peter.

Tuesday, December 6, 2016

Word for the Day: Tuesday, December 6, 2016

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Endurance. Sacrifice of Endurance, or Endurance of (many) Sacrifices? One personal note: Today, so far, feels like I have lived (endured) at least 2 or 3 days of "Life Experience", including a Dentist Appointment this morning.

Word for the Day: Monday, December 5, 2016

The Word for Today (Monday) is Fertility. So, are we to sacrifice ourselves, for fertility? Or sacrifice fertility itself? (And yes, some think they wouldn't want to subject their kids to, what we are experiencing now).

Sunday, December 4, 2016

Word for the Day: Sunday, December 4, 2016

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Stability. Sacrifice Stability (for, say, adventure? Has occurred before, including in my life). Sacrifice being easier, because of a Stable Environment? Also possible. So let's see how this Theme works, this week.

Weekly Theme: Week of December 4-10, 2016

The Theme for this Week is Sacrifice.  So what does it really mean to Sacrifice?  It can be anything, from sacrificing a few dollars, to pay for the lunch of a friend, to sacrificing your life by, for example, saving someone from a burning building.  Note that, when I looked up Sacrifice on Google, I got religious meanings, including "an act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to a divine or supernatural figure".  Oh well!

Saturday, December 3, 2016

Word for the Day: Saturday, December 3, 2016

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Release. Is this about a Prophecy, about how to release yourself from limitations? That's the best way I can see, to combine our Theme, with today's Word. So how many of these Prophecies are out there?

Friday, December 2, 2016

Word for the Day: Friday, December 2, 2016

The Word for Today (Friday) is Aspiration. "I Aspire to provide the best Prophecies I possibly can". And, of course, one step, in that direction, is to understand enough, about the nature of Time, to know better than to consider there only to be one version of the future.

Thursday, December 1, 2016

Word for the Day: Thursday, December 1, 2016

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Contrast. Wow! There is lots of it in the news right now: Definitely the cure for Boredom. The problem? A lot of people are anxious about what a world would look and feel like, with the current US Election results. Prophecies? Certainly possible, but beware of the Time Storms that might accompany "normal" Thunderstorms. You might suddenly find yourself in a reality that you are pretty sure you don't belong to. (I've counseled two Homeless people in Chapel Hill, NC and a co-worker in the Eye Blink Universe, in Seattle, counseled others in Seattle, who believe they suffered from this).
