Word for the Day: Thursday, August 31, 2017

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Gratitude. Now, a Philosophy of Gratitude is Awesome! Being thankful for what you receive is something to always keep in mind, as you go through your day. In fact, in my opinion, Gratitude (along with Kindness) helps the World go around! Need I say more?

Word for the Day: Wednesday, August 30, 2017

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Equality. An Equal Philosophy? [or] A Philosophy of Equality? I like the second one better, though there are, at least two ways, to approach the "definition and usage" of the word "Equality". For example, the way I like the concept, "equality" is with the usage, "Equal Opportunity". But be careful about of a form of "equality", known as "Forced Conformity": That doesn't feel so good to me.

Tuesday, August 29, 2017

Word for the Day: Tuesday, August 29, 2017

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Prudence. A Philosophy of Prudence? A Prudent Philosophy? Both, I think. But Prudence is, basically about being Practical. So it all works out. (Just don't go Overboard and "turn into a Prude"!)

Monday, August 28, 2017

Word for the Day: Monday, August 28, 2017

The Word for Today (Monday) is Innocence. A Philosophy of Innocence? (as opposed to a Philosophy of Guilt?) [or] An Innocent Philosophy? (Hmmm... Guilty Philosophy?) Obviously, some of these go together better than others! But I guess this *can* bring up a question: How Innocent is *your* Philosophy?

Sunday, August 27, 2017

Word for the Day: Sunday, August 27, 2017

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Forgiveness. Would anybody ever "need" to ask Forgiveness for their Personal Philosophy? I can think of, at least a "few" Philosophies that might get you in trouble if you lived by them, including a humorous take on the Golden Rule: "He who has the Gold makes the Rules"! But, in my opinion, if you are a kind person who helps those around you, you are fine!

Weekly Theme: Week of 8/27 - 9/02/2017

The Theme for this Week is Philosophy.  So what does Google say about this?  The first part (before bringing academics into it) is, "the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence".  One question I've heard before:  "Does everybody have a 'personal Philosophy'?  Should they?"  My personal take:  Yes and Yes!  Now:  Some have tried to give me exceptions, such as repeat criminals, who are in and out of County Jails in multiple places.  I had a chance to discuss Philosophy with one example.  What I got from his was in two parts:  1:  "Life's a Bitch and Then you Die", and 2. "Get what you can, When you can".  Okay.  I most certainly don't "agree" with either of those, but can understand how he got them, especially when told that his Father sold illegal drugs for a living, and ended up with 20 Years in Prison!

So what's Your Philosophy of Life?  It might be worth taking the time and effort to find out!

Word for the Day: Saturday, August 26, 2017

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Authenticity. An Authentic Education? Authentic Teachers? (as opposed to impostors, in the classroom?) Incidentally, there *is* something, akin to a "Certificate of Authenticity" for an Education: The Diploma. But, so far, I have not seen a "Certificate of Authenticity" for a Human Being. If Collectors Plates can have them, why not people?

Friday, August 25, 2017

Word for the Day: Friday, August 25, 2017

The Word for Today (Friday) is Interpretation. To keep with, at least one of our Themes, requires a couple, simple questions: "How do you Interpret your Education so far? What further steps would be beneficial?" And what steps *would* be appropriate? This could be anything from picking topics for Google Searches, and the reading of linked articles; all the way to taking evening classes at, either a local Community College, or a local Tech Institute.

Thursday, August 24, 2017

Word for the Day: Thursday, August 24, 2017

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Socialization. Keeping with our Themes: Some classrooms seem like Social Entities. (But not all). Also, there is a Social, Political and Charitable Entity, based on schooling called the PTA (Parent Teacher Association), As a child, I recall my Mother attending meetings at my School. Anyway, be social and learn well. :-)

Wednesday, August 23, 2017

Word for the Day: Wednesday, August 23, 2017

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Concentration. And this fits in well with our Themes, since Concentrating on what you are learning, helps a great deal with the results of the class(s) you are taking. Incidentally, I consider Concentration to be a Synonym for Focus.

Tuesday, August 22, 2017

Word for the Day: Tuesday, August 22, 2017

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Acceptability. An Acceptable Education? Acceptable Teachers? Well, the subject matter being taught makes a difference. For example, would it be acceptable to teach people how to be excellent Bank Robbers? And this works both ways: It is your responsibility to choose acceptable topics to learn in school (or other ways, people learn -- Online, for example).

Monday, August 21, 2017

Word for the Day: Monday, August 21, 2017

The Word for Today (Monday) is Generosity. So what does it mean to be, say, a Generous Teacher? It can be as simple as allowing students in your Office, between classes, or after School. Also, if you learn something well in School, yet find fellow students having trouble, it can be quite Generous of you to lend a helping hand. I made some good friends, both in High School and College doing this. Generosity works!

Sunday, August 20, 2017

Word for the Day: Sunday, August 20, 2017

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Sharing. And, if you got a good education (what out Themes have in common), wouldn't you *want* to share the results? There are many ways to do so, for example, becoming a Teacher yourself. But others exist too, like writing a book, running BLOGs, and more. Share and share alike.

Weekly Themes: Week of August 20=26, 2017

The Themes for this Week are Education and Teaching.  These sound, practically alike yet, according to plugging "education vs teaching" into Google, there *are* differences  --  perhaps quite a few!  For example example, according to an article on bayt.com, "Education is a process, while Teaching is a profession".  I definitely recommend more reading on this subject.  For the purpose of this week's Weekly Themes, we look more at what is common between them:  learning what you didn't know before.  Why not take up a new topic?  And have fun!

Saturday, August 19, 2017

Words for the Day: Saturday, August 19, 2017

The Words for Today (Saturday) are Overview and Perspective. So how important is the "Big Picture" (what our two Words give us), to Retention of what you are learning? First, in my opinion, the *failure* to know this Big Picture eliminates the very *reason* to continue with the rest of the class!

Friday, August 18, 2017

Word for the Day: Friday, August 18, 2017

The Word for Today (Friday) is Reflection. So, are we to Retain our Reflection? [or] Are we to Reflect our Retentions? But seriously, one meaning of Reflection is a *Deep* type of Review, which can *definitely* help (i.e. in an academic environment) with retention of course material.

Thursday, August 17, 2017

Word for the Day: Thursday, August 17, 2017

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Study. Both the High School, and Community College I attended, "way back", had actual classes, on "How to Study". Because the way you Study has a lot, to do with how well you Retain the course material, for whatever class you are taking. As an Experiment, I just plugged "Study Techniques" into Google, getting wonderful information, free for the reading. Good luck!

Wednesday, August 16, 2017

Word for the Day: Wednesday, August 16, 2017

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Absorption. Absorb, to Retain? Why not? Sponges retain the water that they absorb (at least until they dry out). Why not Retain the Foreign Languages that you absorb, if you participate in the Immersion Training, type of language teaching? And, of course, have fun.

Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Word for the Day: Tuesday, August 15, 2017

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Review. So are we to Review Retention? [or] Retain a Review? Both? Neither? Anyway, in an Academic setting, good Reviewing techniques help with the Retention of Class materials. That's why I like Textbooks, that put a short Review at the end of each Chapter, especially if they, then include a few sample questions that might, later, appear on the Examination.

Monday, August 14, 2017

Word for the Day: Monday, August 14, 2017

The Word for Today (Monday) is Experimentation. We "experiment around", in our lives, to see what works, and what doesn't work. One Michael Concept is the Nine Needs. For if we understand what we need, we have something to work with.

Sunday, August 13, 2017

Word for the Day: Sunday, August 13, 2017

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Recognition. So, do we Recognize what we Retain? (Does this even make any sense?) So let's just say that I like to Recognize those, who help me through my life. So recognize away!

Weekly Theme: Week of August 13-19, 2017

The Theme for this Week is Retention.  So what does this mean?  The first thing Google says is, "the continued possession, use, or control of something".  (Hmmm...   Does this include the medical condition called, "Water Retention"?)  But there are other connotations, too.  Like, for example, how well do we Retain what we Learn?  One example is two ways to teach Chemistry:  The best way, in my opinion, is where you do the experiments yourself.  That way, you can see what works, what doesn't, and (possibly) how bad your fingers feel, if you get the wrong chemical on them!  So, also in my opinion, the newer (and more "cost effective") way of teaching Chemistry has, either Class videos and/or demonstrations by the professors, instead of student experiments.  Also, to better retain what I read, I've found it best, if I have privacy, because reading the book aloud is Quite effective.  Good luck!

Saturday, August 12, 2017

Word for the Day: Saturday, August 12, 2017

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Resolve. "I hereby Resolve to Preserve my Resolve"! Need I say more? (Feel free to comment).

Friday, August 11, 2017

Word for the Day: Friday, August 11, 2017

The Word for Today (Friday) is Courage. Preservation of Courage? [or] Courage to Preserve? Both? Wow. Both work! Building on yesterday, you can also develop the Courage to say, "No!"

Thursday, August 10, 2017

Words for the Day: Thursday, August 10, 2017

The Words for Today are Strength and Empowerment. Do you Know your own Strength? Do you Feel Empowered? Can you Preserve all of this? Do you want to? Lots of questions here! It is, of course, important to express your True Self, when you can (i.e. when you are "just yourself", as opposed to "playing a role", such as a policeman or store clerk). Often the best start, in these arenas is to learn How, as well as When, to apply the concept of "No".

Wednesday, August 9, 2017

Word for the Day: Wednesday, August 9, 2017

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Competence. Are you competent? Don't worry, trick question. (It usually needs a subject, for example). But this *does* bring up the fact, that it *is* important to be competent to be yourself.

Tuesday, August 8, 2017

Word for the Day: Tuesday, August 8, 2017

The Word for Today (Tuesday) is Endurance. So How do you Preserve Endurance? (For that matter, how do you develop it in the first place?) The "usual suspects" come to mind (i.e. Health and Fitness Clubs. Gyms. Places like YMCA). But one thing is often overlooked. I recommend adding Yoga to the mix.

Monday, August 7, 2017

Word for the Day: Monday, August 7, 2017

The Word for Today (Monday) is Fertility. Fertile Preservation? [or] Preservation by Fertility? Second sounds better to me. For example, the "usual connotation" for Fertility is part of the task, of Preserving our Species. [Oh? Part?] Yes. Other steps, to preserve our Species (as well as others on Planet Earth) has to do with, quite simply, taking care of the Planet Herself! For example, if our Air and Water is too poisoned, to breathe and drink, what good is "Being Fruitful and Multiplying"?

Sunday, August 6, 2017

Word for the Day: Sunday, August 6, 2017

The Word for Today (Sunday) is Stability. So are we to Stabilize our Preservation? [or] Preserve our Stability? I like the Second one better, though periods of Stability make it easier to Preserve "things". So lets see how the Words, this week relate to our Theme. (For example, on which Days, will it be easier to Preserve your Fun?)

Weekly Theme: Week of August 5-12, 2017

The Theme for this Week is Preservation.  So what does it mean to Preserve something?  According to Goggle, it means to, "maintain (something) in its original or existing state".  Now, one way to do that is through the Theme, two weeks ago:  Archive.  (In other words, Preserve by keeping backups).  But not everything is Digital.  We have Concepts to Preserve also!  For example, many think we should Preserve our Humanity.  What do you think?

Saturday, August 5, 2017

Word for the Day: Saturday, August 5, 2017

The Word for Today (Saturday) is Release. Release from Analysis? (Not on *my* watch!) Analysis of Release? (That's more like it!) So do you often feel like you're stuck in a Box? Do you then wish there were a way out? Look closely around your Environment for something akin to a "Release Lever". It's function may not be obvious but, at times like this (these Words cycle every seven weeks): Something is left, to provide a way out. Why? Mercy, of course!

Friday, August 4, 2017

Word for the Day: Friday, August 4, 2017

The Word for Today (Friday) is Aspiration. Analysis of this Word is unusual, since it has multiple connotations, some of them Medical. But my favorite, is where I Aspire to be the best that I can, at all times. Ponder that.

Thursday, August 3, 2017

Word for the Day: Thursday, August 3, 2017

The Word for Today (Thursday) is Contrast. Contrasting Analysis? [or] Analysis of the concept of Contrast? The best Analysis I have, of Contrast is how it needs to be balanced: Too little Contrast can be Boring, yet too Much Contrast can be downright Frightening! Take control of the Contrast, in your life.

Wednesday, August 2, 2017

Word for the Day: Wednesday, August 2, 2017

The Word for Today (Wednesday) is Adaptability. So how do we Analyze this? First off, Adaptability relates to Flexibility, a useful trait. For example, a Flexible person tends to Adapt to his/her Surroundings. But an Inflexible person asks his/her Surroundings to adapt to him/her!

Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Words for the Day: Tuesday, August 1, 2017

The Words for Today (Tuesday) are Agility and Grace. So, continuing from Yesterday, let's Analyze these two Words. Yesterday, we measured Acceleration, found that, in my opinion, you can Accelerate Intellectual and Spiritual Growth, but not Motor Vehicles (at least excessively), lest you get a Speeding Ticket. Today is different! For example, to achieve and develop Grace, people have tried Spiritual Labyrinths. (My closest one is at the Millbrook Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC). But what you learn, in Labyrinth Walking is to walk *very* slowly! Believe it or not, you also develop Agility that way. Good luck, folks!
